by Joseph Harrison - Sep 24, 2017

Of all of Shakespeare's comedies, A MISDUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is one that often rises to the top as a favorite for many theater-goers. But, whatever the reason one might have for loving this popular play by the Bard, the season opening production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at Hartford Stage fulfills them all (and then some.) BWW Review: CATALINA DE ERAUSO a Delightfully Wacky and Witty Feminist Adventure
by Frank Benge - Sep 22, 2017

CATALINA DE ERAUSO, a new play by Austin playwright, Elizabeth Doss (Mast, Poor Herman), is a rollicking, comic adventure tale currently receiving its world premiere production. Doss's script crackles with wit and word play, with the occasionally recognizable contemporary phrase or saying thrown in. At heart, this is a grand satiric offering that reminds one of Voltaire's Candide, with its tongue firmly planted in its globe trotting cheek. (more...)

BWW Review: THE LAST FIVE YEARS at Taproot Showcases More Talent Than You Might Expect
by Jay Irwin - Sep 22, 2017

The Last Five Years , that Jason Robert Brown quirky two hander gets put up quite a bit and it stands to reason, it's a fun show filled with rich songs, it's only two actors, it typically has little to no set and so everyone and their dog puts it on. I've seen it multiple times since it came on the scene. I've seen basic, traditional productions. I've seen productions with multiple rotating casts. I've even seen a production where they reimagined why the relationship ends. So while I was leery of yet another production with the word reimagined in the description it also had two local powerhouses in the roles so I had faith. Well that faith was paid off in spades as not only did they present a killer rendition of this incredible show but their reimagining only served to showcase how insanely talented these two are. But we'll get to that. (more...)
