On 8 April, 1992, eight of Broadway's hottest men danced nearly naked on the bar at Splash, one of Manhattan's popular gay watering holes, and Broadway Bares was born. One of those men, the creator of Broadway Bares, was the now multi-award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. Fraser, CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH), announced today the hosts and honorees for SportsBall 2019, the 25th Annual Black Tie & Sneakers Gala, to take place on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Renowned guests representing sports, philanthropy, business, entertainment, and medicine will gather to celebrate the legacy of tennis champion and humanitarian Arthur Ashe. The Orchestra Now (TŌN), the visionary orchestra and master's degree program founded by Bard College president, conductor, educator, and music historian Leon Botstein, begins its fifth season on September 14, 2019. Five different series and three special events will offer 19 diverse programs and 31 performances presenting novel combinations of both time-honored and lesser-known repertoire through May 17, 2020. Since the Orchestra's launch in 2015, the young members of TŌN have performed 261 works by 137 composers for more than 50,000 people in 23 venues, with 158 soloists and 15 conductors.

Richmond Triangle Players launches its 2019-20 season with the Tony-Award winning musical Falsettos, opening Friday September 6, 2019, at 8 pm, following two low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday, September 4 and 5 at 8 pm. The production will run five weeks, through Saturday, October 5.

The Lilacs Endure is the first new release by Chicago PowerPop quartet, The Lilacs, in more than 25 years. Produced by indie rock legend Richard Lloyd (Television, Matthew Sweet), and recorded in Nashville at the legendary Studio 19, The Lilacs Endure features four never-before-recorded Lilacs songs and is being released by Chicago's Pravda label August 16.

Rip Torn, one of the leading stage actors of his generation and an Emmy Award-winner for his portrayal of the deliciously devious producer Artie on HBO's “The Larry Sanders Show,” has died. 

On behalf of the Gisela Johnson and the Johnson family, we are informing you that Emmy winning comedic actor, Arte Johnson has passed at 1:45am, July 3rd, 2019.  There are no services planned.  His ashes will be taken to his home away from home in HI, were a private ceremony will be held.

McCarter will welcome a group of esteemed and emerging playwrights and theater artists to Princeton for the Sallie B. Goodman Artists' Retreat. The annual retreat in June is a centerpiece of McCarter's LAB, a platform and creative incubator devoted to ongoing theatrical development and artist cultivation. The 2019 Retreat will take place from June 12 - June 19.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today the first wave of guest presenters who will celebrate Denzel Washington at the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award on June 6, 2019, at a Gala Tribute in Los Angeles. Chadwick Boseman, Jodie Foster, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman (2011 honoree), Michael B. Jordan, Issa Rae, Julia Roberts and Cicely Tyson will all be in attendance to pay tribute to Washington's life and work. In addition, multitalented film, television and music video artist Melina Matsoukas (AFI Class of 2005) will receive the 2019 Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal, recognizing her extraordinary creative talents.  

Today, D23, the official Disney fan club, has announced the eleven recipients for the 2019 Disney Legends Award. This year's recipients are Bette Midler, Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer.
