Coney Island USA announced Jesse Malin and two-time Grammy winner Rickie Lee Jones as King Neptune and Queen Mermaid for the 44th Annual Mermaid Parade, the nation's largest art parade.

Bright Star is a Bluegrass/Folk musical written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Its tale is set in the vast landscape of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains between the years 1945-46, and features flashbacks to the year 1923. The pair produced a Grammy-winning album in 2013 entitled Love Has Come For You, in which the musical is inspired by its lyric-scape and the true story of the Iron Mountain Baby.

In a world where AI increasingly tries to consume and simulate real human experiences, theatre sometimes feels like one of the last gasps of being in a room together. When we watch a show with others, respiration synchronizes, empathy increases, and information retention improves. It’s one of my favourite feelings.

Today, Tuesday, August 26th, is National Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the certification of the 19th Amendment granting women a constitutional right to suffrage. Even after female suffrage was granted in the United States in 1920, women still struggled to defy social norms and break out of traditional gender roles. However, one major example of women getting to make their mark as part of the global fight for freedom occurred during the Second World War. The hit Broadway musical Operation Mincemeat tells the story of some of the women who helped make the allied success possible.

The American Symphony Orchestra announced its 63rd season of four full-orchestra concerts at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, Carnegie Hall, and St. Bartholomew’s Church, featuring a free opening performance titled Beyond the Hall at Bryant Park on September 6, repeated and also free at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts in Queens on September 7. 

The breathtaking production of Paula Vogel's Indecent at the Wilbury tackles this challenge head on, and the result is one of the most powerful theatrical experiences of the season. Top line: Go see this show before it closes on Dec. 23.

LionHeart Productions is presenting Bright Star, a beautiful story about faith, hope, love and forgiveness. Written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. This Tony nominated show (nominated the same year as Wicked)  will have you tapping your toes to it’s country/bluegrass sound.   We had the chance to interview one of the male leads of the show and see what David had to say about playing the role of Jimmy Ray, and his thoughts on Bright Star.
