Annie’ last played the Lied Center in 2017. The details of that show have faded post-pandemic, but not enough so that it can't be said that the 2025 touring company version of the musical is, in a word, better. Or, in a few more words, captivating and entertaining as it brings the Depression-era characters and story to life nearly a century after it is set.

A synopsis of “Annie” on the Broadway in Hollywood website describes this touring production as arriving 'just when we need it most.' By the end of the musical, that tagline doesn’t feel very accurate. Annie’s positive attitude is certainly inspiring, but it only works within a well-executed show, and this unfortunately fails to deliver.
