The season will include 16 weeks of repertory performances, including a four-week Fall Season (September 21 – October 17, 2021), six-week Winter Season (January 18 – February 27, 2022), and six-week Spring Season (April 19 – May 29, 2022).  See attached season calendars for complete programming information.

Shakespeare Royal Oak is celebrating its 20th season of outdoor professional theatre with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It's playing this weekend, August 5th-8th, under the stars at Jaycee Park. BWW Detroit was delighted to speak with Executive Director of SRO, Ed Nahhat and Director of the show, Lynch Travis.

About a week after the ball dropped in Times Square and ended 2020, I swore off acting on Zoom. It had been a good run. I hadn’t reached the decision out of frustration or disappointment. I was just burned out. From the beginning of lockdown in New York to the start of 2021, I was acting into my computer anywhere between two and nine times a week: improv shows, improv classes, sketch shows, character classes, a Shakespeare play, a film noir radio play—if I had the time I would do it. While these shows and classes were fun and stimulating, acting day after day in my bedroom, to my laptop, was getting exhausting. I planned to step away for a little while to choose my next move. Enter: Atlantic Acting School.

British stage director Netia Jones put her singular stamp on a production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream seen at the Santa Fe Opera on August 4, 2021. Performed in the opera house, it was simulcast to the lower parking lot where hundreds of patrons watched from the safety of their cars. One can take the entire family in the car.

Something About George – The George Harrison Story will close the festival on Sunday 12 September, with performances at 5pm and 8pm. Running time is 75 minutes no interval, tickets are on sale now. 

The Winter's Tale is part of Cal Shakes' ongoing Season of Shared Light that included performances from Destiny Arts and Bandaloop, West Edge Opera, Papermoon Presents, and Good Medicine: A Night of Native Stand-Up Comedy, among others. 

Chicago Shakespeare Theater announces the return of in-person performances at the Theater’s home on Navy Pier with the much-awaited debut of As You Like It infused with the hit songs of The Beatles, beginning October 6, 2021. 

In addition to its six-play membership season, the Montgomery County institution returns with an equally busy schedule of concerts, special productions, presentations, and even more curated programming to build off of the success of its summer series: Olney Outdoors.

The festival will open with improvisational comedy troupe Spontaneous Players with their entirely improvised comedy shows Spontaneous Potter Kidz: The Unofficial Improvised Parody at 3pm and Spontaneous Sherlock at 8pm from 10 – 12 August.

The cast and director will pick up where they left off to deliver an exceptional comedy. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella will dazzle audiences during the holiday season, 9 to 5 will make audiences smile in January, A Midsummer Night's Dream put on by Stagecrafters Youth Theatre will take place in March, and Mamma Mia! will close the season with many laughs and smiles in May of 2022.

The world stage premiere of The Magician's Elephant will run in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Thursday 14 October 2021 to Saturday 1 January 2022 with press night on Tuesday 26 October 2021. Learn more about the production here!

The Santa Fe Opera announces the following casting updates for the 2021 Season opening on July 10 and running through August 27: Laurie Feldman will direct The Marriage of Figaro after a concept by French Director Laurent Pelly, who is unable to travel to Santa Fe due to international travel restrictions and has therefore been following rehearsals and the progress of the production from France.

Saratoga Performing Arts Center is inviting audiences to the SPAC grounds and nearby Pitney Farms to experience live, outdoor performances throughout the summer. The SPAC amphitheater and main lawn will be the home of performances by New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Saratoga, as well as “A Midsummer Night’s Supper.”

The Arizona Theatre Matters' summer festival launches today, with performances continuing through July 31. 

Hosted on the historic Coaling Jetty on the River Thames in front of the Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station, London's only open-air cinema and theatre experience will feature special theatre and comedy performances from The Turbine Theatre and film screenings from The Cinema in The Arches, formerly known as Archlight Cinema.

Rising star and Offie Award-winning actor Bart Lambert will take on the titular role in the new edgy musical adaptation, Dorian A Rock Musical. Following the success of Gatsby A Musical, filmed and streamed at Cadogan Hall, Ruby in the Dust will present their brand new production, reenergising Oscar Wilde’s classic text for a modern audience.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival has announced the month-long, five-play O! Reading Series. For this new initiative, five directors who are part of OSF’s artistic staff have each chosen a play to be performed as a live digital staged reading by some of OSF’s favorite actors.

The first wave of shows for the second annual Liverpool Theatre Festival taking place in September have been announced today (Friday 25 June), with tickets going on sale at 10am.

After streaming to NYC schools this Spring, Apocalyptic Artists Ensemble's multimedia production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, co-produced by Astoria Performing Arts Center, premiered to the public on June 13th at Stuart Cinema in Brooklyn.

This summer's mainstage offering is 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' directed by Taylor Davis. The one hour long, four actor Backyard Bard series this year is a rotating rep of 'Twelfth Night' and 'The Tempest' directed by long time GreenStage veteran Ken Holmes.

Theatre for a New Audience will present a new virtual production of The Oresteia, the New York premiere of Ellen McLaughlin’s adaptation and translation of Aeschylus’ trilogy, featuring music composed by Kamala Sankaram, directed by Andrew Watkins (TFANA, as Assistant Director: The Winter's Tale, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Father, A Doll's House).

With new state reopening guidance, members of the Alliance of Desert Theatres (AODT) are committed to restarting the arts, which will help our communities recover, reflect and rebuild. Most companies are planning full seasons starting this fall. Several are also offering live performances this summer, in-person summer youth programs and other workshops. AODT is a cooperative of producing theatre companies and live entertainment organizations in the Coachella Valley and Morongo Basin that network and take action in order to advocate for and nurture a vibrant performing arts community.

Hennepin Theatre Trust has announced the theater accomplishments of students and schools participating in the Trust's Spotlight Education program for the 2020-2021 academic year. As the Trust's premier education program, Spotlight Education supports and honors Minnesota high school students and programs focused on theater.
