Classic Stage Company announced additional casting for A Man of No Importance. Joining the previously announced Jim Parsons in the production will be Alma Cuervo, Kara Mikula, Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil, Thom Sesma, Tony nominee A.J. Shively and more.

This July, Berkshire Theatre Group will present Songs For a New World, the first musical by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown at The Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge, MA, and also the 2022 Colonial Concert Series: Featuring Broadway Luminaries Chita Rivera and Charl Brown at The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA.

Bob Gunton, a two-time Tony nominee, Drama Desk and Obie winner (Sweeney Todd, Evita, How I Got That Story) will return to the New York area stage after a thirty-year hiatus to star in the acclaimed drama The Soap Myth by Drama Desk winner Jeff Cohen Aug 10-28 at Southampton Cultural Center.

This sweeping and stirring musical masterpiece paints a portrait of America at the dawn of the twentieth century, interweaving the lives of three families—an African American family, a Jewish Immigrant family, and a wealthy white family—finding their places and pursuing the American Dream in a rapidly changing world. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Terrence McNally (Master Class, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink) and a Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Once on This Island, Anastasia, Seussical The Musical), this musical is based on E. The Music Man officially begins previews tonight on Broadway! Meet the cast bringing the iconic musical back to the stage!

The phrase “No one is irreplaceable” was shattered this past week when composer/lyricist/GOD of American musical theatre Stephen Sondheim passed away at age 91. Simply put, Sondheim was unique, groundbreaking and a true original that many tried to copy and never could.

Irish Repertory Theatre announced today productions for their upcoming fall season, which will mark their return to in-person programming following the Covid-19 shutdown in March 2020.  

Gender may not be real, but I’d like to see these non-traditional castings become real! I am a big fan of MCC’s Miscast gala. I watch the performances every year and daydream about what I would sing, if I was ever so lucky to be a part of it. Because Miscast is a little over a month away, I have come up with some “miscast” castings of my own! I have cast women in roles traditionally played by men, and vice versa! 

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!
