On Monday, September 23, 2019, Theater Works received a staggering 30 AriZoni Awards. The AriZoni Awards recognize excellence in theatrical performances, as well as individuals who produce exceptional work in all aspects of theatre across the Valley annually. Theater Works received 65 nominations for productions in the 2018-19 season, receiving six awards for the MasterWorks season and 24 awards for YouthWorks productions.

The Washington Stage Guild returns to the Nobel Prize-winning George Bernard Shaw, with a new production of the first play by GBS ever presented by the Stage Guild, Candida. Subtitled a?oeA Mystery,a?? in it, a preacher and a poet are in love with the same woman. The former is her husband, the latter wants to woo her away, and both are shocked by her ultimate choice and the reasons for it. 

Eleven world premiere plays and musicals seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving nominations by the Jeff Awards, announced today. A total of 192 nominations were made in 34 categories that honor Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2018 and July 31, 2019. During the 2018-19 season, Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 132 Equity productions offered by 43 producing organizations and from these openings, 112 productions were a?oeJeff Recommendeda?? and eligible for award nominations.

I had the pleasure of seeing A Bronx Tale with my friend Cassy, who had NEVER seen a musical before! (I know, right?!) I invited Cassy because the 1993 movie, off which the musical is based, is her favorite. Seriously, her cat is named Calogero, after the lead character in both the movie and the play. I was excited to see this show, and especially excited to see it through the eyes of a neophyte theater goer. I was not disappointed!

Hylton Performing Arts Center announced today its 2019-2020 season of mainstage performances, featuring a diverse lineup of artists and ensembles across genres, as part of Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, Matinee Idylls, and the American Roots Series. TheaterWorks offers a night of magic for the whole family in the final installment of the 2018-2019 YouthWorks Series. Disney's Beauty and the Beast is on stage in the Gyder Theater May 3 through 19 at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts.

Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the nation's leading youth choral institutions, honors Don Hahn, the acclaimed Academy Award-nominatedproducer of such blockbuster Disney films as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Maleficent, and philanthropists Jennifer and Joe Sliskovich at Gala Bel Canto on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 5:30 pm, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The celebration features musical tributes by some 200 young singers from five LACC ensembles led by Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, a three-course dinner and a live auction.
