Theatre for a New Audience has announced new preview, press, and opening dates for Denis Johnson’s Des Moines. Due to the detection of Covid within the Des Moines company, performances November 29 – December 3 have been canceled, with the production now beginning December 4.

SISTAS THE MUSICAL has announced its return on April 2 at Off-Broadway's The Actors Temple Theatre for an open-ended run. This live musical production is written by Fulbright Scholar and Columbia University professor Dr. Dorothy Marcic, based on interviews with Black women over several years

Flipping the all-male script, the ensemble features all women: local actors Katie Calahan, Katie Huettel, and Jessy Julianna under the direction of Brianna Larson.

Returning to lead the cast are Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle, Laird Mackintosh as Professor Henry Higgins, Leslie Alexander as Mrs. Higgins, Adam Grupper as Alfred P. Doolittle, Kevin Pariseau as Colonel Pickering, Gayton Scott as Mrs. Pearce, and Sam Simahk as Freddy Eynsford-Hill.

MY FAIR LADY, brimming with familiar musical standards, stars Laird Mackintosh as Professor Higgins and Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle. Had the chance to catch Laird during his offstage time before his evening performance.

What really helped make the learning process faster was that my professor’s selection of songs for the recital were from either Broadway or West End musicals like The Sound of Music or Jekyll and Hyde. Majority of them were songs I knew since I was a child or I just learned them throughout the years.
