Media Inquiries: marketing@rentoncivictheatre.org November 13, 2025 Renton Civic Theatre Presents: Annie Renton, WA – Celebrate the holiday season with Annie, the beloved musical that proves the sun will come out tomorrow! This heartwarming story follows the journey of a determined young orphan as she finds adventure, family, and hope in the most unexpected places. With music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan, Annie touches on universal themes that resonate with audiences of all ages. Written in the 1970s, authors Charnin and Meehan wanted to reflect the troubled political times of the Nixon era and the Vietnam war, so they set the story in the Great Depression under FDR. Audiences may also observe the plot weaves in strands of Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. Billionaires, greedy criminals, loving secretaries and a charming president fill out the story that the New York Times called a “smash” when it premiered in 1977. In addition to being a hit on Broadway, Annie has been adapted into several films over the years with each reimagining bringing something new to unforgettable characters like Miss Hannigan, Grace Farrell, and Daddy Warbucks. With unforgettable songs like It’s the Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow, this timeless classic is filled with laughter, joy, and holiday spirit. Perfect for audiences of all ages, Annie is the perfect way to make your season merry and bright!
