Mirror Stage Launches New Expand Upon Staged Reading Series with a Focus on Institutional Racism

Sponsored in part by ArtsWA and the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Mirror Stage is thrilled to launch its new Expand Upon staged reading series responding to the community-selected theme 'Institutional Racism.' For this first round of Expand Upon, Mirror Stage commissioned Seattle playwrights Rachel Atkins and Seayoung Yim to each develop a short play using the same multi-generational, multi-racial cast. The plays will be presented in tandem, with a oderated discussion following every performance.

Noche Flamenca Replaces Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba at Meany Center for the Performing Arts

Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington announced today that Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba has cancelled its November 16-18, 2017 performances at Meany Hall. The company was unable to secure travel visas due to the recent suspension of visa processing at the U.S. Embassy in Havana. The company has been replaced by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca, one of the world's top touring flamenco troupes.
Shanna Waite Appointed New Head of UW Musical Theater Program

The University of Washington Musical Theater Program is announcing the appointment of Shanna Waite as its new program director. Waite will oversee the program through the end of its pilot phase in 2020. She takes over from former program head Wilson Mendieta, who departed in June to join the Dance faculty at Chapman University in Orange, California.

Back in 2011 many of us here in Seattle were subjected to a very different version of Disney's Aladdin than what you might see currently playing at the Paramount Theatre. Also for many of us that previous version left a bad taste in our mouths for the property. A property that we loved in its original movie form 25 years ago (wow, was it that long ago). But this new version on tour now from the Broadway incarnation seems to have grown up from its shaky beginnings and now delivers a fun ride for kids and adults alike.
