Theater Schmeater Announces 'Theater for All People' 2018 Season

In 2018, Theater Schmeater is bringing some fantastic artists into our space to produce shows they are passionate about. The season is brought to you by the artists who will create it.

Theater should be for everyone, and this year Theater Schmeater is working toward that with its stage, its staff and its season.

"Theater for All People" isn't a cry of victory, it's a statement of a goal, a reminder of purpose and we are excited to bring you these people, plays and more in 2018.

Swallow

By Stef Smith

Directed by Julia Griffin

February 2 - 24

Julia Griffin has returned from the Emerald Isle (getting her Masters no less) and brings us a play she fell in love with overseas. A story about a woman who just lost her love, one who won't leave her house and Sam who is learning to live life as himself.

The Country Wife

By William Wycherley

Adapted by Rachel Atkins

Directed by Elizabeth Wu

March 23 - April 14

Schmee is over the moon to have this creative team take on Wycherley's classic comedy of coquettishness and cuckoldry. Adapted by the Gregory Award winning author of "Black Like Us" and Starring Shermona Mitchell as the titular Mrs. Margery Pinchwife, this version promises to leave no stereotype unturned.

Welcome to Arroyo's

By Kristoffer Diaz

Directed by Jay O'Leary

May 11 - June 2

Recently arrived from NYC, Director and Teaching Artist "Miss Jay" O'Leary brings her passion project about the newest (and cleanest) lounge in the Lower East Side and the birth of Hip Hop music to Belltown.

She Kills Monsters

By Qui Nguyen

Directed by Butch Alice

July 27 - August 18

Director and Master Monster Maker Butch Alice returns to TS to take the reins of this monster of a show. A mash up of Dungeons & Dragons, Dramadey & Dice Throwing, Sisters & Swordplay, She Kills Monsters brings its serious nerd cred to the Schmee this summer.

Two Sisters and a Piano

By Nilo Cruz

Directed by Jose Amador

September 14 - October 06

Seattle director Jose Amador offers this beautiful game of cat and mouse set against the back drop of 1991 Cuba, just as the Russian army is finally leaving. Author of "Anna and the Tropics," Nilo Cruz refuses to paint his characters in black & white, and we can't wait for Jose's take on his lyrical script.

The Twilight Zone: Live!

Directed by Wayne Rawley

November 16 - December 15

The AD of Schmee is directing The Twilight Zone: Live! in 2018 - He's got some ideas for what episodes he wants to bring into three dimensions. What episodes would you like to see? Write him at community@schmeater.org and let him know. And why! Who knows? Maybe you will get your way for once.

Finally - don't miss our yet untitled TWILIGHT ZONE OFFNIGHT SERIES. We are going ask local writers to submit ORIGINAL SHORT PLAYS, inspired by the classic show but with a PNW and Seattle bent. Then, Associate AD Emily Harvey is going to curate them and serve them up Monday-Wednesday nights during our annual TZ show. Trust, this isn't going to be your Grandma's Twilight Zones!

In addition to the mainstage season, Theater Schmeater will also be presenting:

The Schmeater Schmakespeare Fest

Part of the City-Wide Shakespeare Festival

3/26 - 4/11

Theater Schmeater invites local writers to submit short plays that use The Wonderful World of William as their inspiration. We put 'em up with a couple of Schmee surprises thrown in for good measure for measure.

Bilbliophilia

A co-production with Jekeva Phillips and Word Lit Zine

4/19 - 4/21

This amazing weekend celebrating local authors, their words and the performances inspired by them returns to Theater Schmeater for its second year!

The Family Park Show

7/14 -8/8

Oh, we're doing a family show in the parks this summer. It's going to be amazing, we just don't know what it is yet. Don't miss it.
