TheatreWorks Raises Funds at 'A Muse Ball' Event

Donned in aviation attire, nautical garb, and their vacation finest, some 175 guests took to the skies as they gathered at Hiller Aviation Museum to honor TheatreWorks Silicon Valley at its spring fundraiser A Muse Ball: Take a Journey with TheatreWorks, a high-flying celebration of art and inspiration.

Pianist Igor Levit, the San Francisco Symphony’s Artist-in-Residence for the 2022–23 season, joins Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Orchestra for two weeks of programs, June 15–27. Performances include Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 and Ferruccio Busoni’s Piano Concerto across two Orchestral Series programs with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony, in addition to a Great Performers Series solo recital and a chamber music performance with members of the Orchestra.

What did our critic think of CHINGLISH at SF Playhouse? SF Playhouse is all in with their take on Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang's Chinglish: stylish set and lighting, excellent direction, and a strong ensemble cast. While there's plenty of comic moments in Hwang's sardonic commentary on language barriers and the effects of those miscommunications, there's also thoughtful observations on fidelity, corporate and judicial corruption, and even nationalism.

Bruce Liu, winner of the 2021 Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, joins conduct Rafael Payare and the San Francisco Symphony to perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, May 11–13, replacing violinist Hilary Hahn in these performances. Hahn, who was scheduled to play Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto, is unwell and regretfully unable to perform on this week’s program.
