The Still Point: An Immersive Experience

Join us as we transform the stunning SOMArts gallery space into a liminal world of infinite possibility. This immersive dance-theater performance invites audiences to explore the world of the show on foot, surrounded by light and color, as the choreography and action unfold around you.

The Still Point is a 70-minute multi-room immersive walk-through performance combining dance, theater, interactive projection, scenic installation, and an original score.

Four fractured figures are suspended in parallel worlds, each trapped within unresolved memories. As audience members move through the space, the boundaries between these worlds begin to break down, setting in motion an exploration of identity, disconnection, and the longing to reconnect with oneself and community.

he show pulls inspiration from the Tibetan Buddhist concept of the Bardo, a threshold between death and rebirth, and T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets.

“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless; Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is…” —T.S. Eliot

FAQs

What kind of experience is this?

Imagine wandering through a living art installation where dance, music, projections, and storytelling unfold all around you. There are no assigned seats, and no two audience journeys are exactly the same.

Is this interactive?

The performance begins as a guided experience, and then audience members are set free to explore the space at their own pace. Some performers may briefly acknowledge or invite participation, but all interaction is gentle and completely optional. You will never be singled out or pressured to participate.

Is it scary?

No. While the performance explores themes of memory, loss, and transformation, it is not a horror experience. The atmosphere ranges from intimate and emotional to joyful and celebratory, with moments of tension, wonder, and catharsis.

Is this for me?

Whether you're a longtime dance lover, an immersive theater fan, or simply curious about experiencing something different, The Still Point was designed to be accessible to first-time audiences and seasoned arts-goers alike. Whether you come alone, with a partner, with friends, or as a group, each audience member creates their own journey through the experience.

Content Advisory

Recommended for ages 13 and up. The show includes mature themes, immersive environments, darkness, flashing lights, and moments of psychological intensity.

Who is putting this on?

The Still Point was created by Bay Area native Sophia Stoller and Iris Company, marking the company's San Francisco debut.

The production brings together performers and collaborators whose credits include Sleep No More, Then She Fell, Life & Trust, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway, The Sphere, the Royal Opera House, CalArts, and more.

Most importantly, it brings together artists from across the Bay Area and around the world…and audiences ready to step inside.

What should I wear and bring?

Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended, as the performance involves walking and standing throughout the space. Small bags are encouraged. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel curious, adventurous, and ready to explore.
