Patricia Milton Comedy BAMBOOZLED Premieres At Central Works

Central Works begins its 2018 season of new plays with Bamboozled by award-winning playwright Patricia Milton, opening with a press night on Saturday, Feb 17, and running through March 18 (previews Feb 15 & 16) at the historic Berkeley City Club. Bamboozled was developed by Ms. Milton in the Central Works Writers Workshop, and is inspired by true events. In Central Works 58th world premiere, Abby is a young appraiser touring with the show "Antiques Roadtrip." She's a black woman from L.A. traveling in the south-Shelby County, Tennessee. When she's accused of defrauding a Daughter of the Confederacy out of a fortune in Civil War heirlooms, Abby finds herself on the hook for a million dollars. Her legal team is flailing and her accuser is formidable. Should she cop a plea? Or take a long shot for justice?

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley presents the Tony Award-winning musical The Bridges of Madison County, based on the 1992 bestselling novel by Robert James Waller about love both lost and found. Set amidst the cornfields of Iowa in 1965, this passionate musical follows the unexpected affair of a devoted Italian-born housewife and a roving National Geographic photographer set over four sensual, heart-stirring days. Brilliantly adapted by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Marsha Norman ('night Mother, The Secret Garden, The Color Purple) with music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade), it captured the 2014 Tony Award for Best Musical Score. The Bridges of Madison County, directed by TheatreWorks Artistic Director and founder Robert Kelley will be presented April 4 - 29, 2018 (opening night: April 7) at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St., Mountain View. Arts Educators Explore Arts And Empathy With 'Arts In Your Classroom' At Montalvo

Montalvo Arts Center, in partnership with Santa Clara County Artspiration, San Jose State University, and the Arts Council Santa Cruz County, is proud to announce its 16th annual conference for artists, educators, administrators, and members of the community interested in better understanding where arts and creative practice can enhance their professional and/or personal development: Arts in Your Classroom, a one-day learning conference in Saratoga on Saturday, March 3 from 9am to 4pm. The theme of this year's conference is "Bridging the Gap: Transforming Perceptions of Division." It will examine how the arts can build tangible connections and cultivate empathy in today's increasingly disparate and divisive world. Initiating the conversation is keynote speaker Jeff Chang, the American Book Award-winning author and Executive Director of the Institute for Diversity in the Arts at Stanford University. Participants will then delve deeper into relevant sub-themes through focused workshops led by thought leaders in the visual, performing, literary, and musical arts. TALL TALES Comes to Monday Night PlayGround Readings at Berkeley Repertory Theatre

This season over 75 California Playwrights have been invited by PlayGround to write ten-minute plays in competition for Monday Night PlayGround Readings. In San Francisco and Los Angeles well over 1,000 audience members statewide have seen the winning 26 plays  to date. Play topics have included Reap What You Sow, Probable Future Or Possible Future, Home For The Holidays  and In The Beginning… This February cycle invites playwrights to write ten-minute plays inspired by "TALL TALES" for Monday Night PlayGround Readings on February 12, 8PM at the Zephyr Theatre in Los Angeles and on February 19, 8PM at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley.

American Conservatory Theater Now Accepting Applications for ArtShare

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced today that applications forArtShare, A.C.T.'s community space-sharing initiative, are now being accepted. Created in 2012, ArtShare provides free performance space for small and mid-sized companies without permanent performance space, as well as independent artists, who would benefit from being in residence at one of A.C.T.'s spaces in the Central Market area-The Costume Shop (1117 Market St.), A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue; and The Rueff, a multi-use event and performance space located at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.). ArtShare is made possible by generous support from the Hearst Foundation, the Rainin Foundation, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Opera San José today announced the company's 2018-19 season opening September 15, 2018 with Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio, directed by Michael Shell, followed in November by Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, directed by Shawna Lucey. The company will then begin 2019 with Heggie and Scheer's Moby-Dick on February 9, and concludes the season in April with Puccini's Madame Butterfly, directed by Brad Dalton.
