San Diego Opera Presents THE FALLING AND THE RISING

San Diego Opera's 2019-2020 season comes to a close with Zach Redler's opera about military spirit with The Falling and the Rising. The Falling and the Rising opens May 8, 2020 at 7:30 PM at the Balboa Theatre as part of the d?"tour Series. Additional performances are May 9 at 7:30 PM and May 10 at 2 PM.

San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today the lineup of FREE REP Xtras Events surrounding the downtown theatre's production of House of Joy, including multiple mini-concerts and dance presentations from some of San Diego's best Indian arts and cultural groups. Intended to deepen and enhance the play-going experience and strengthen the REP's missional commitment to celebrate the multiple voices of our region, REP Extras Events provide the public and REP audiences with an opportunity to engage with themes and issues around plays on the REP's season, enjoy the Lyceum Spaces, and become more integrated in the REP community.  REP's Xtras Events include community-focused conversations, actor talk-backs, musical performances, a visual art exhibit and other activities.

The Old Globe Held its Annual Meeting, Electing New Board Member for 2020 Fiscal Year

The Old Globe's Annual Meeting was held on Monday, February 3, 2020 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Board Chair Nicole A. Clay welcomed the members of The Old Globe Board of Directors along with donors, subscribers, and guests, and announced the newly elected Directors serving three-year terms. Globe senior staff members presented highlights of the 2019 fiscal year, and Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Managing Director Timothy J. Shields spoke about the future of the Globe and its place in the San Diego community.
Moonlight Presents Spring Line-up

As part of its 40th Anniversary Season and fifth anniversary of the Moonlight Presents series, the Moonlight Amphitheatre will offer four events in April. Fall and winter events will be announced this summer. With title sponsorship from Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, the City of Vista has been able to expand year-round programming at the city owned Moonlight Amphitheatre for the past five years. Moonlight's Managing Director Colleen Kollar Smith oversees programming of the Presents series and today announced the April line-up.

La Jolla Playhouse Launches 2020 POP Tour, Developed In Partnership With National Disability Theatre

La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to launch its 2020 Performance Outreach Program (POP) Tour production: Emily Driver's Great Race through Time and Space, by A.A. Brenner and Gregg Mozgala, directed by National Disability Theatre (NDT) Co-Executive Directors and Playhouse Artists-in-Residence Talleri A. McRae and Mickey Rowe. The production will tour schools throughout San Diego County January 29 a?" March 27.  Commissioned by the Playhouse, this world-premiere play for young audiences will also have four public performances on February 29 and March 1 at 1:00pm and 3:00pm at La Jolla Playhouse. Beethoven was born 250 years ago, and the world has been honoring the anniversary with a deluge of the great composer's music. The San Diego Symphony's celebration continued with strong, well-played performances of Beethoven's Egmont Overture and sixth symphony. Principal Guest Conductor Edo de Waart was once again at the podium. He was assigned most of the heavy lifting for this season's surfeit of Beethoven. The program also included Haydn's 92nd symphony, the 'Oxford.'

The San Diego State University MFA Musical Theatre Program, under the supervision of Robert Meffe and Stephen Brotebeck, will present a staged reading of the musical Modern. Written by Selda Sahin and Derek Gregor, directed by Shayne Mims, with music direction by Richard Morrison. The presentation will take place Friday, January 31 at 3:30 pm in the Experimental Theatre on the SDSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

San Diego Repertory Theatre to Receive $20,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

The leadership of San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today that the theatre has been approved for a $20,000 Art Works grant to support their production of House of Joy. Overall, the National Endowment for the Arts has approved 1,187 grants totaling $27.3 million in the first round of fiscal year 2020 funding to support arts projects in every state in the nation, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
