"Swan Lake" is one of the most fantastic and perfect creations of world art, perhaps the most famous ballet in the world. His music and choreography has for a long time considered a recognized masterpiece of World ballet, one of the brightest achievements of Russian culture. A White Swan will forever remain a symbol of the Russian Ballet, a symbol of the beauty and grandeur.

The story of Swan Lake was started in 1875, when commissioned by the Bolshoi Theatre young but already famous composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composes the music for the ballet "at the invitation of the Moscow Directorate write music for the ballet" Swan Lake ". I took up this work in part for the money that need, in part because I had long wanted to try myself in this kind of music "(P. I. Tchaikovsky, from the letter to the N.a. Rimsky-Korsakov). Treatment of the composer of that level (and by the time Tchaikovsky had already established four symphonies, the famous Piano Concerto and the Opera "Eugene Onegin") was not common at the time. In Imperial theaters for that kind of creativity there were established composers – Cesar Pugni, Ludwig Minkus, Riccardo Drigo. Tchaikovsky did not set a goal of a "revolution" in ballet. With his usual modesty, he carefully studied ballet scores, anxious, not breaking with established forms and traditions of ballet performances, from the inside out satisfy their musical Foundation high richness. But now it is generally accepted that it was "Swan Lake" has opened a domestic Ballet unseen musical horizons, the developed subsequently and by Tchaikovsky and his followers.

The music is composed from May 1875 to April, 1876. The Ballet – fabulous story of Knight's time. There are many opinions about his literary sources: known as Heinrich Heine, German storyteller by Johann Muzeusa, a Russian fairy tale about a girl-swans and even Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, but history itself is completely unrelated. The idea probably belonged to the composer himself, but the authors of the libretto are Vladimir Begichev, Inspector of the Moscow theatres and Vasiliy Geltser dancer.

Opening night of performance took place on February 20, 1877, but, alas, proved extremely unsuccessful. Responsible for the failure of the public entrusted the choreographer Wenzel Rejzingera, not praised by contemporaries and first performer main party Pauline Karpakovu.

In those years, the ballet scene dominated type of monumental and ceremonial or entertainment performance. Devoid of drama, Ballet of unity coming apart into separate non-major emphasis amusements, sumptuous costumes, stage effects and virtuoso solo variations dancers. The creation of this type of performance has contributed to the sometimes brilliant, but generally illustrative and superficial music of Cesar Pugni and Ludwig Minkusa, relied on her eclectic choreography the French ballet master Arthur Saint-Léon. His loyal follower of ballet master Rejzinger by asking the first ballet by Tchaikovsky, not guessed that the reform was "Swan Lake" Ballet composer-symphonist. He staged on the old, familiar canons. Unfortunately, the failure of this shadow and to ditched setting the ballet, and a long time none of choreographers toward him has not applied.

Everything changed after the death of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. In 1893, at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg it was decided about the revival of Swan Lake. For the processing of the libretto came from the composer's brother Modest Tchaikovsky, and Director of the Imperial theatres Ivan Vsevolozhsky. From the music of Tchaikovsky experienced conductor Riccardo Drigo has assembled an entirely new product. And the choreography was shared by famed ballet master Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, his disciple.

Premiere of the ballet, with which he started his famous history, was held at the Mariinsky Theatre, January 15, 1895. It is this staging was considered lyric pinnacle of Russian Ballet Theater.

It is generally believed that it was Marius Petipa created a unique choreography, but truly Russian Ballet and melodious made him humble Assistant Maître, Lev Ivanov. It belongs to the staging of the famous Swan in the choreographic scene. It was he who coined the charmed girls with crossed hands and sklonënnymi tûnikah on their heads, in which the Viewer is instantly guessed silhouette folds her wings of the bird. Lev Ivanov created the Ethereal is snazzy and heartwarming world of the Lake of the swans. Petipa's earlier work has staged scenes of Palace courtiers celebrations, balls and fancy weave waltzes, Spanish, Hungarian, Polish dances. White Queen of the swans, Ivanov, Petipa officially opposed the black doppelganger Odilliû, creating the amazing beauty of "black" Pas de Deux of the second Act.

Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov first became aware of Peter Tchaikovsky ballet music, innovation, opportunity and right – on a par with the Symphonic – disclose internal for steps, embody the characters of heroes of Ballet in their interaction and development. Statement claimed a new form – symphonic Ballet Ballet Theatre. The amazed people all over his contemporaries blaze brought meaning and significance of the reforms made By Tchaikovsky in this ballet, which has since been his triumphal procession on commits scenes around the world.
