Retired sea captain Dr. Morosus marries a young woman who turns out rather differently that what he expected in this comic production with an opera-in-an-opera twist. A troupe of boisterous players stirs up the romance with disguises and a bit of deceit! Artistic Director Jonathan Eaton stages this lovely production which features acclaimed guest artists in leading roles during our final week of SummerFest! A rare and wonderful experience, Richard Strauss's 1935 comic The Silent Woman (Die schweigsame Frau) is the third ravishing but lesser-known work by this 20th century master in our four-year cycle of Strauss operas--sung in English with projected titles and our full SummerFest orchestra. The libretto is written by Stefan Zweig, based on Ben Jonson's 1609 comedy titled Epicoene, or the Silent Woman. Film Fact: Zweig is the inspiration for the 2014 hit film The Grand Budapest Hotel! AAA, Group and Student discounts available.
