The play, written by Kenneth LaFave and directed by Herb Paine, explores the mystery behind Beethoven’s famous piano work, “Für Elise” (“For Elise”). Who was “Elise” who inspired one of classical music’s greatest composers to dedicate this piece to her? Scholars have never produced a definitive answer.
LaFave gives us two possibilities: an adoring young student and a romantic love interest. The tension between these two, the portrait of Beethoven, and the excitement of witnessing a new piece of music come to life form the crux of the story.
