ABOUT THE SHOW

Horton the Elephant hears something no one else can: a tiny voice calling from a speck of dust that contains an entire world. As he vows to protect the Whos, he finds himself increasingly isolated from those around him, while other Dr. Seuss characters—like the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and JoJo—navigate their own intersecting stories. Gradually, these separate worlds begin to overlap in unexpected ways.

Seussical weaves multiple Dr. Seuss stories into a single narrative where imagination and reality constantly blur. As the characters’ paths cross, the story becomes a reflection on responsibility, connection, and the impact of being heard—or ignored. It’s playful and energetic on the surface, but ultimately about the power of small voices to shape something much larger.

This production will be approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.

ABOUT SHOWCASE

MTAA’s signature Showcase program presents Broadway musicals in a concert-style format with live orchestra and chorus. After just 8–12 hours of rehearsal across two days, participants present a complete musical with scripts in hand and live orchestral accompaniment. Rather than elaborate sets or staging, Showcases place the music at the center. Students, emerging artists, and experienced performers share the stage in a collaborative performance built around the score, ensemble, and storytelling.

Every Showcase offers audiences the opportunity to experience a full musical from a fresh perspective—driven by live music and a community of performers.

This season reimagines stories audiences already know—from page to screen to stage. Each Showcase takes a familiar world and expands it, revealing new perspectives and deeper connections within stories that feel timeless but never static. Across the season, characters find themselves pushed into change, forced to reconsider what they know, and ultimately shaped by the choices they make. It’s a season about transformation, identity, and the ways stories continue to evolve alongside us—brought to life with a full live orchestra.
