Mayor-Elect Eric Adams attended last night’s performance of Thoughts of a Colored Man, his first Broadway play in his new position. After the show, which was attended by Mary J. Blige, Broadway’s own Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband PA. State Senator Vincent Hughes and Tasha Smith, Mr. Adams praised Keenan Scott II’s play as “historic”.

Just before its opening night on Broadway, Good Morning America went behind the scenes of Thoughts of a Colored Man, the first Broadway play in history to be written and directed by Black men, and to include a cast of all Black men. Watch the interview with the play's cast and creatives now!

Today we rewind to 2010 when The Scottsboro Boys moved to Broadway. The musical, which features music and lyrics by legendary songwriting team John Kander and Fred Ebb, played for 49 performances at the Lyceum Theatre.

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) presents the second and final show of the 2019 Nutmeg Summer Series: 'Cabaret,' the Tony-Award-winning musical centering around a German nightclub against the backdrop of the Nazis' rise to power. The cast is led by Olivier Award-winner Laura Michelle Kelly as Sally Bowles and Tony Award-nominee Forrest McClendon as the Emcee. They will be joined by three-time Tony Award-nominee Dee Hoty and Jonathan Brody. Scott LaFeber will direct with choreography by Christopher d'Amboise. Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) continues its 2018-19 season with Paula Vogel's 'A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration.' Elizabeth VanDyke will direct. Broadway Beat brings you an interview with Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, Best Featured Actor in a Musical nominees for The Scottsboro Boys. Prior to The Scottsboro Boys, Domingo starred starred as Mister Franklin/Venus of Berlin in Passing Strange, for which received an Obie Award. He reprised his roles in the film version of Passing Strange directed by Spike Lee, which made its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. In 2010, Domingo's self-penned play 'A Boy and His Soul' premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater, for which he won a GLAAD and a Lucille Lortel Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and a Drama League Award. He has also starred as Billy Flynn in Chicago. McClendon, who made his Broadway debut in The Scottsboro Boys, has appeared off-Broadway in Faith Journey. He also appeared as CC White in a 2005 Prince Music Theatre revival of Dreamgirls: The Musical in Philadelphia. His most recent theatrical project is a regional production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at the Two Rivers Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.
