Red Pill Players Receives Jamie Hawkins-Gaar Memorial Scholarship For Diverse Improv Troupes

Red Pill Players, a rising African American improv group in Atlanta, was announced as the second recipient of The Jamie Hawkins-Gaar Memorial Scholarship at Dad's Garage Theatre. The scholarship, dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion within Atlanta's improv community, honors the life and legacy Jamie Hawkins-Gaar, who was an improviser and friend of Dad's Garage.

The cast has been unveiled for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe production of Alexander S. Bermange's comedic musical revue I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical, which will be running at Underbelly, Bristo Square (The Dairy Room, Venue 302) from 31 July to 26 August.

The Academy Invites 842 To Membership; 50% Are Women

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 842 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. The 2019 class is 50% women, 29% people of color, and represents 59 countries. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2019.

KaddalMerrill Announces Rain Over Nubia UK Tour And Album

Egyptian, Nubian and British musical traditions combine to create a unique fusion. KaddalMerrill is the collaboration of classically trained Egyptian flautist Fayrouz Kaddal (High Dam Band, Africairo) and innovative British folk fiddler Daniel Merrill (Dead Rat Orchestra). Backed by Egyptian master percussionists including Ayman Mabrouk (who has appeared with the likes of Fathy Salama and Gilberto Gil) they come to the UK for their first tour in August.

AMC Greenlights First Episodic Anthology Series

AMC announced today that it has greenlit a new, yet-to-be-titled original episodic anthology drama created by Emmy-Award winning writer Will Bridges (“Black Mirror,” “Stranger Things”) and Brett Goldstein (“Superbob,” “Adult Life Skills”). Bridges and Goldstein will executive produce with Jolyon Symonds through Fearless Minds, a Banijay Group company ('Thorne' series for Sky One, “Complicit”). The Untitled Bridges/Goldstein Project, produced by AMC Studios, will consist of six, hour-long episodes, and is slated for a 2020 debut on AMC.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the winners of the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, celebrating and rewarding the very best programmes and performances of 2018. The ceremony was hosted by Graham Norton at the Royal Festival Hall, London, and presenters included Andrew Scott, Billy Monger, Bradley & Barney Walsh, Danny Dyer, David Schwimmer, Julia Stiles, Kelsey Grammer and Sir Lenny Henry.

Lisa Howard Leads NYC Industry Reading Of HANSEL & GRETL & HEIDI & GUNTER

The new musical Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Gunter, which will have its West Coast premiere at Village Theatre outside of Seattle in 2020, will receive an industry reading co-directed by Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza) and Jerry Dixon (If/Then) on May 3, 2019 at 3PM.
