The Conservatory Celebrates The New Year With GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory will start 2020 with the surprisingly delightful Gruesome Playground Injuries, a contemporary play by 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Rajiv Joseph. Ashley Teague directs the story of two people and the unique relationship they build over a lifetime of injuries, both physical and emotional. This sharp-witted and dark comedy will run from January 1 a?' 19, in the Cook Theatre with a pay-what-you-can (minimum $5) preview night on December 31.

DEAR YOKO Opens At Whitefire Theatre On February 2

Following successful 2019 engagements at the Whitefire Theatre and Santa Monica Playhouse, the acclaimed show Dear Yoko returns to the Whitefire Theatre for a single performance as part of the Whitefire's Solofest 2020. Anzu Lawson (who plays Ashley Kim on NBC's Chicago Med) is an Asian-American actress who grew up in Southern California in a broken family.

Pepper Announces Supporting Acts for 'Step to the Local Motion Tour'

Today the pioneers of Kona dub rock, Pepper, announce 'Step To The Local Motion' tour openers Kash'd Out and The Elovaters! The Winter tour kicks off February 2020 in  Boston, traveling through the East Coast, then zig-zagging back to West.  Pepper will be touring in support of their Billboard chart topping album Local Motion which spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Charts!

Ghost Wolves Share Music Video for 'Fist'

Austin, TX-based duo Ghost Wolves are excited to share the video for 'Fist' from their 2019 Third Man Records 7'. The video was animated by the band's own Carley Wolf. The band will be touring extensively in 2020, first across their home state of Texas, then through much of Western Europe. Arena Stage Announces Cast and Creative for A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the company for A Thousand Splendid Suns, adapted for the stage by Ursula Rani Sarma and based on the 2007 New York Times bestselling novel by Khaled Hosseini (Kite Runner). Set in 1992 in war-torn Afghanistan, this gripping story centers around a friendship that develops between two Afghan women following a tragedy. While facing insurmountable odds of a brutal and oppressive way of life, the two form an unlikely bond in a heart-rending fight for survival. Directed by Carey Perloff, A Thousand Splendid Suns runs January 17 - March 1, 2020 in the Kreeger Theater.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, has announced the recipients of the third round of the 2019 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. The awards, totaling $415,000, allow 9 productions extra time for the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, hoping to extend the life of the world premiere play after its first run.

A hilarious broadband comedy of errors,You've Got Hate Mail takes an hysterical look at the world on on-line hook-ups and break-ups. In You've Got Hate Mail, love 'bytes' all when an extra-marital affair goes horribly wrong, thanks to a juicy e-mail sent to the wrong mailbox. The story is told entirely in e-mails from laptop computers, although the play still manages to have an unforgettable chase scene fueled by cell phones and PDAs.

Syd Mead to Be Honored with the 2020 ADG 'William Cameron Menzies' Award

Syd Mead, the 'visual futurist' and concept artist known for his design contributions to science-fiction films such as Star-Trek: The Motion Picture, Aliens, and Blade Runner, has been named the recipient of the William Cameron Menzies Award from the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) at the 24th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards. The award recognizes his innovative neo-futuristic concept artwork on numerous legendary movies. The 2020 Awards will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. The announcement was made today by ADG President Nelson Coates, ADG, and Awards Producer Scott Moses, ADG.
