THE INHERITANCE has won the 2020 Tony Award for Best Play!

2020 proved to be an exceptional year for the Tony Awards and the nominees in the category of Best Original Score are equally exceptional. In a category usually dominated by musical scores, all five nominees in the category come from plays.

This Sunday, Artistic Director Chil Kong will lead a discussion with Broadway actor Zachary Piser and local DMV artists as they discuss the challenges of going live and in person as both a performer and teaching artist guiding students and audiences as we return to a new world through COVID’s impact.

George Street Playhouse plans to SWEEP AUDIENCES off their FEET when they return to live theatre with KEN LUDWIG’s DEAR JACK, DEAR LOUISE a new romantic comedy directed by David Saint -- on stage at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center October 26 through November 21. 

A new slate of fall programming has been announced for Audible Theater, including three more shows staged live at the Minetta Lane Theatre and four Audible Originals. Highlights include: And So We Walked, An Evening with Solea Pfeiffer, and Approval Junkie.

The Old Globe will present Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part I featuring students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program. Program Director and USD Craig Noel Distinguished Professor Jesse Perez directs a cast of 12.

The Old Globe announced the full cast and creative team for Shutter Sisters written by Mansa Ra (Too Heavy for Your Pocket) and directed by Donya K. Washington (Beautiful Blackbird at Alliance Theatre and Festival Producer at Oregon Shakespeare Festival).

Andrew Polec, 32, actor/singer/musician/composer from Doylestown, PA, is honored to have been named the first prize winner in The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music 's 23rd Annual Lotte Lenya Competition, which took place in New York City on August 28, 2021. He received the $20,000 First Prize plus a $2,000 Finalist Prize, for a total of $22,000. Each of his four selections were a fully realized one-act drama. 

In honor of Luker, a six-time judge for the competition, the Lotte Lenya Competition has created the Rebecca Luker Award, given for an outstanding performance of a selection from a Golden Age musical. The first Luker award was given to Taylor-Alexis DuPont for her performance of “Supper Time,” from As Thousands Cheer.

The Old Globe will continue its streaming productions with English and Spanish language versions of Anonymous Biography: The Arguments of Juan José Saer, a world premiere play by Argentinian writer Juan José Saer, with English translation by Roanne Kantor.
