Talawa's Flagship Programme TYPT Returns, Supporting Black Emerging Theatre Makers

TYPT, Talawa Theatre Company’s flagship free programme for emerging theatre makers, is back this summer.  The annual programme sees a team of 12 emerging artists, aged 18-25, work with established artists to create a brand-new show in just four weeks.  This year’s showcase will be 16th – 18th August at Talawa’s HQ at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. 

Full Cast Revealed For The UK Première of Lynn Nottage's MLIMA'S TALE

Kiln Theatre has announced full casting for the UK première of Lynn Nottage's Mlima's Tale. Miranda Cromwell directs Gabrielle Brooks (Githinji), Pui Fan Lee (Gouxi), Brandon Grace (Andrew), Natey Jones (Geedi) and Ira Mandela Siobhan (Mlima). The production opens on 21 September, with previews from 14 September, and runs until 21 October.

75 years since the arrival of HMS Windrush into Britain, Montel Douglas's debut play explores young  British Caribbeans' experiences of the Windrush crisis through the story of four young friends on the cusp of adulthood leaving college.

Talawa Firsts Returns Next Month

Now in its 11th year, Talawa Firsts is expanding, becoming an epic two-week festival of innovative writing, poetry, live music, cabaret, wellbeing workshops, networking and a club night this July.

All new rehearsal images have been released for Talawa Theatre Company’s major new production, Recognition, which is premiering at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, from 1st – 24th June as part of London Borough of Culture 2023 - This Is Croydon.

Dates Revealed For Lynn Nottage's MLIMA'S TALE at the Kiln Theatre

Artistic Director of Kiln Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham, has announced the dates for Lynn Nottage's Mlima's Tale. Miranda Cromwell's production opens on 21 September, with previews from 14 September, and runs until 21 October. Priority booking for Kiln Card holders opens today at 12pm today. General on sale is 12pm tomorrow, 17 May.

Cast Revealed For Talawa's Major New Production, RECOGNITION

The two lead cast members and the creative team has been announced for Recognition, Talawa Theatre Company's major new production opening this summer.  Talawa, the UK's outstanding Black theatre company, is presenting the premiere of Recognition at Fairfield Halls, as part of This Is Croydon, London Borough of Culture 2023.  Recognition is inspired by the remarkable life and works of dual-heritage Black classical composer, and Croydon resident, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. 

Children and Families an 16 London Boroughs Take Part in Month-Long SPINE Festival

Now in its 8th year, SPINE Festival transforms libraries into creative hubs, introducing children aged 5 – 11 to the joys of their local library, to different art forms and to all the wonderful ways that words can be used. 16 London boroughs will be hosting their own programmes of free workshops and performances supported by leading spoken word poetry organisation Apples and Snakes and a team of 16 Artists in Residence.

Cast Announced For Shakespeare's Globe's SHAKESPEARE IN THE ABBEY

As celebrations continue for the 400th Anniversary of the First Folio across 2023, Shakespeare’s Globe will return to Westminster Abbey for the hugely popular Shakespeare in the Abbey for six special performances beginning this evening and running until Friday 31 March.

Leicester Hosts LET'S DANCE INTERNATIONAL FRONTIERS Next Month

Let's Dance International Frontiers is the dynamic annual dance festival in Leicester which presents live performances by fast-rising and established dance artists from the UK and abroad.  Most of this year's live shows will take place at Curve Leicester while street performances of dance, music, and poetry will take place at outdoor locations throughout the city. 

Bush Theatre Invites You to Join a SLEEPOVA, from 24 February - 8 April

Sleepova, an ode to black women and their boundless spirits and wild dreams is a new Bush commission from Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini (Little Miss Burden) opening on 24 February 2023 (press night 1 March).  Sleepova marks the stage debut of three actresses including Bukky Bakray (Rocks), who at 19, became the youngest BAFTA Rising Star Award recipient as well as one of the youngest 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' nominees.
