The Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation Has Announced the NYC Public High School Student Playwriting Fellowship

The Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation has announced the NYC Public High School Student Playwriting Fellowship, created as an opportunity for young writers citywide to get unparalleled access to New York City professional artists for mentoring. The inaugural Lortel student Fellows and finalists - representing every Borough, as well as D75 and D79 school districts - submitted original 10-minute one-act plays and were selected by a panel of playwrights, directors, and literary managers including Kareem Fahmy, Seri Lawrence, Cori Thomas, Mark Wade, and Cary Wong. Fellows will meet with a playwright mentor to discuss their play and learn more about playwriting as a career. Playwright mentors for this group of teen playwrights are Joshua Harmon, Kait Kerrigan, Sylvia Khoury, and Rehana Lew Mirza. All plays will be presented in a special one-night-only performance at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street) on March 24, 2020. Kimille Howard will direct.

Ailey II Returns to The Ailey Citigroup Theater in March

On the heels of a successful world tour to over 30 cities, Ailey II, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's junior company that serves as a bridge between The Ailey School, will return to its home, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, for a highly anticipated two-week season featuring 14 exhilarating performances from March 25- April 5.

NKU Dance Concert Features New Works By Guest Artists

Northern Kentucky University's School of the Arts will present DANCE '20, an evening of new works by guest artists, faculty, and students. Twelve dynamic dances will add up to an evening of concert pieces that highlight various styles of dance, including ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and dance theatre. Performances take place March 6-7 at NKU's Corbett Theatre. The production is coordinated by the artistic team of Frankie Montazemi, Anna Gortner, Sylvia Chervus, DJ Bruggee, and Tracey Bonner.

York Theatre Company Will Present The World Premiere Of CHEEK TO CHEEK: IRVING BERLIN IN HOLLYWOOD

The York Theatre Company will present the Off-Broadway premiere of Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood, a song and dance celebration featuring the music and lyrics of the legendary Irving Berlin, with book by Barry Kleinbort (13 Things About Ed Carpolotti) and music direction by David Hancock Turner (York's Desperate Measures), directed and choreographed by four-time Tony Award nominee Randy Skinner (42nd Street, Dames at Sea, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and Ain't Broadway Grand). Performances begin Friday, April 17, 2020 for a limited engagement through Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2020 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Opening Night is set for Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. Cast and creative team will be announced shortly.

In celebration of what would be legendary film and television icon Ricardo Montalbán's 100th birthday in 2020, the historic Hollywood theatre, The Montalbán, whose moniker is “where entertainment begins,” is unveiling new plans to fulfill Ricardo Montalbán's dream of diversity and inclusion. This year, the owners of The Montalbán, Ricardo's son in law and President of The Montalbán Company, LLC, Gilbert Smith, and daughter Anita, have plans to expand the theatre's musical performances, beginning with The Company Men on February 21 and 22; and The Soul of Broadway Starring Terron Brooks on February 28 and 29.

Tickets to TREVOR at Stage 42 Are Now On Sale

Producers Roy Furman John Ambrosino / Josie Bray / Mark Woods announced today that the New York debut of Trevor, a new musical, will begin performances on Tuesday, April 7 ahead of a Tuesday, April 21 opening night at Stage 42 (442 West 42nd Street).

BAM's popular, interactive arts showcase Teknopolis returns for its fourth year with an ambitious new program designed to inspire creativity, connect with the future, and embolden a renewed sense of play for all ages. Teknopolis offers the latest in technology-fueled art and participatory environments. It features work by leading artists and technologists who are pushing the artistic boundaries of VR, AR, mixed reality (MR), 360° films, and sensor-based technology and displays, and whose work sits at the crossroads of art, film, music, and technology. This year, the three-week-long showcase includes 20 highly interactive installations and six 360° films with artists from 12 different countries, presenting their work over five levels of the BAM Fisher building, from February 22 to March 8. Many of the exhibitions allow participants to interact with the installations directly.
