Signature Theatre will present Quiara Alegría Hudes’ My Broken Language, the acclaimed playwright’s stage adaptation of her eponymous memoir, and her return to Signature for the second play in her Premiere Residency. My Broken Language takes place Oct 18-Nov 27, 2022 in the Pershing Square Signature Center’s Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre.

The Bret Adams and Paul Reisch Foundation has announced the recipients of their 2022 Idea Awards for Theatre; three categories of grants awarded to adventurous new voices in playwriting and musical theatre, as well as the visionary playwrights who have inspired and blazed trails before them.

Our heroine is a slightly off-kilter but endearingly earnest young woman named Jean.  In the opening scene, she finds herself in a cafe whose only other customer is dead, and being who she is, she can't resist picking up his phone when it rings. So she gets drawn in to the dead man's family and his decidedly sinister professional life. 

San Jose Stage Company has announced the cast and creative team for the first production of its 40th Anniversary 2022-23 Season, Sex with Strangers by Laura Eason. Directed by Johnny Moreno, Sex with Strangers will run from October 12 – 30, 2022 at San Jose Stage Company.

Fall for Dance North (FFDN) returns for its eighth year from September 17-October 8th. The Santa Fe Opera will present the world premiere of This Little Light of Mine, a new opera about the life of voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. The one-act opera is composed by Chandler Carter with libretto by Diana Solomon-Glover. Under development since 2017, the piece is commissioned by the Santa Fe Opera and its Opera for All Voices (OFAV) consortium partners.

Playwrights Horizons will present the New York premiere of Bruce Norris’s Downstate, directed by Pam MacKinnon, October 28–December 11 (opening November 15). This provocative work surrounds a registered address in downstate Illinois, where four men convicted of sex crimes share a group home, living out their days post-incarceration.

Albert Camus’ The Fall will come to life onstage as Belgian-born actor Ronald Guttman embodies the anguish of exiled Parisian lawyer Jean-Baptiste Clamence. Performances of Albert Camus’ The Fall begin October 13 at The Huron Club at Soho Playhouse, with an opening set for Wednesday, October 19, for a limited run through November 19.

Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winner COMMON will  make his Broadway debut in the role of “Junior” in the Broadway debut production of Stephen Adly  Guirgis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Between Riverside and Crazy, directed by Austin Pendleton.  

Casting has been announced for the return of Take Me Out on Broadway. Joining previously announced Tony Award Nominee Jesse Williams and Tony  Award® Winner Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julian Cihi, Hiram Delgado, Brandon J. Dirden, Carl Lundstedt, Ken  Marks, Tony Award® Nominee Michael Oberholtzer, Eduardo Ramos and Tyler Lansing Weaks return to reprise  their roles with Bill Heck joining the company in the role of “Kippy.”  

The award-winning Red Seed Films has announced the online premiere of FRANKIE and film festival screening dates for THE BOTTOM, the company's two inaugural short films.

The Public Theater has announced complete casting for the world premiere of PLAYS FOR THE PLAGUE YEAR, written by and featuring Pulitzer Prize winner and Public Theater Writer-in-Residence Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Bessie Award winner Niegel Smith. 

Broadway Baby Productions will present private industry readings of -Who Killed Marilyn” a new play by Sharleen Cooper Cohen. Directed by Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Evening Rapture_), the readings will be held on Friday, September 16th at 11:00am and 2:30pm.

Michael R. Jackson's WHITE GIRL IN DANGER will begin previews on March 15, 2023 and will officially open on April 10, 2023 at Second Stage’s Off-Broadway home, the Tony Kiser Theater. The limited 8-week run will play through Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Soho Rep will present Montag, written by Kate Tarker, directed by Dustin Wills and with original opera music by Daniel Schlosberg. The world premiere production of Montag runs October 12–November 13 at Soho Rep.

This fall, Steep Theatre will return to the stage with the Midwest Premiere of Alexis Scheer’s Our Dear Dead Drug Lord, opening October 28. This production will mark Steep’s first from award-winning playwright Scheer and Sophiyaa Nayar’s Steep directorial debut.

Beginning Tuesday, October 25, Kristolyn Lloyd (Dear Evan Hansen) will lead the cast of Roundabout Theatre Company's new Broadway production of 1776 as 'John Adams.' 1776 begins preview performances on Friday, September 16, 2022 and opens officially on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Playwrights Horizons will present Mia Chung’s Catch as Catch Can, directed by Daniel Aukin, running October 14 - November 20 and opening November 1.
