From Friday, September 13 through Friday, September 20, BAM presents Purpose and Passion: The Cinema of John Singleton, a career retrospective dedicated to the trailblazing late director. 'The sudden, shocking death of John Singleton at the age of just 51 in April 2019 robbed the world of a trailblazing, influential and, arguably, somewhat underrated chronicler of Black life on film,' says series programmer Ashley Clark. 'This is both a full retrospective of the late director's characteristically muscular, thought-provoking cinematic output, and a chance to pay tribute to a singular talent.'
Fuse Media has renewed Big Boy's Neighborhood for a third season. Premiering Thursday, August 1 on Fuse at 7:30 A.M., the televised version of iHeartMedia's nationally-syndicated hit radio show starring radio legend Big Boy is one of the youngest-skewing series on the network, attracting an audience with a median age 5-6 years younger than the Fuse average.
Gina Torres has boarded romantic comedy THE HATING GAME, joining previously announced leads Lucy Hale and Robbie Amell. Peter Hutchings (THEN CAME YOU) will direct Christina Mengert's adaptation of the bestselling novel by Sally Thorne. The film is produced by Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra, and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures. Shooting starts in August in New York. Mister Smith Entertainment is co-financing and will handle sales.

The event, the brainchild of New York Times science writer and editor Alan Burdick, will begin with remarks by executive editor Dean Baquet, and will feature a star-studded reading of a new short play, commissioned for the occasion from Tony Award-winner J. T. Rogers; and a discussion, hosted by Michael Barbaro ("The Daily"), with NASA veterans of the Apollo missions. The evening is augmented by an interactive VR experience that brings the audience one step closer to the most iconic step in history.
