Edinburgh-based Union Theatre will present MARY, Rona Munro's political thriller about Mary, Queen of Scots, at Hill Street Theatre, completing The James Plays cycle in Scotland.

Broadway has a long history of one-person shows, including many that have been added to the canon in this century.  Seeing one actor powerfully create a whole world on stage can be an exceptional experience. Of course, one handers are hardly one-person projects; while there may only be one actor on stage, they are collaborating with an entire team of creatives, designers, and behind-the-scenes personnel to bring a show to life. 

My Name Is Lucy Barton, written by Elizabeth Strout and adapted by Rona Munro, will be presented at The Drama Factory, directed by Charmaine Weir Smith.

The Scottish Society of Playwrights (SSP) has announced that the 2024 Hector MacMillan Award for Best New Scottish Play—affectionately known as “The Hector”—has been awarded to Douglas Maxwell for his acclaimed play So Young. This marks Maxwell’s second consecutive win, following last year’s recognition for The Sheriff of Kalamaki, making him the first playwright to win the Hector two years in a row.
