THE ART OF THE SCORE Returns Next Month With “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” And “Psycho”

The New York Philharmonic will present the seventh season of The Art of the Score, September 11a?"14, 2019, featuring two New York Premiere screenings, both conducted by Richard Kaufman: Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Concert, with John Williams's score performed live to the film, and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho in Concert, with Bernard Herrmann's score performed live to the film. Actor and Philharmonic Board Member Alec Baldwin returns as Artistic Advisor of The Art of the Score, which explores some of the most distinctive uses of music in film.

ADG Film Society Presents CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND

We are not alone. The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Film Society's 2019 Screening Series will present the Oscar -winning classic CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (1977) and pay tribute to its Oscar-nominated Production Designer Joe Alves, ADG, at the Egyptian Theatre on Sunday, June 23 at 5:30 pm. Following the screening, Mr. Alves will explore the making of Close Encounters and behind-the-scenes challenges including creating the massive alien ships, moderated by Thomas A. Walsh, ADG, Production Designer and ADG Film Society Co-chair. The annual 2019 Screening Series Production Design: Designers On Design, highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations, is in association with American Cinematheque.

Classic Movies Under The Stars Announced At Montalvo Arts Center, July 12

Montalvo Arts Center invites movie-lovers to sit under the stars and enjoy classic movies with Sunset Cinemas. Part of its Summer Nights Series, the free screenings of The Wizard of Oz, Grease, and Jaws will take place on the front lawn of Montalvo, where guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or low chair to set up. Beer, wine, and snacks will also be available for purchase on-site.

The six-part docu-series' original score by multiplatinum producer and GRAMMY®-nominated artist, producer and songwriter Salaam Remi pays tribute to the revolutionary sounds of a year that reshaped rock.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and the American Cinematheque are co-hosting the annual 2019 Screening Series “Production Design: Designers On Design” highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations. The monthly series will run from April through August at the Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood) with all screenings starting at 5:30 pm.  Moderating the screenings are Production Designers THOMAS A.
