The latest extraordinary piece of theatre -- another must-see -- that I have had the privilege to attend is Desert Ensemble Theatre's production of Rajiv Joseph's ALL THIS INTIMACY, playing for one more weekend (April 1st to 3rd). The play has plenty of laughs, but it is not a comedy. It tells the story of a college professor who has impregnated three different women, and the fallout from this unintended happening.

Geffen Playhouse’s next live production in their Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater, Lindsay Joelle’s TRAYF opens March 10th (with previews already in progress). Maggie Burrows directs the cast of Ilan Eskenazi, Ben Hirschhorn, Louisa Jacobson and Garrett Young. For those unfamiliar with the term “trayf,” Oxford Language dictionary defines trayf as “adjective: (of food) not satisfying the requirements of Jewish law.” I had the opportunity to throw out a few questions to Lindsay amidst her final rehearsals.

Classic Stage Company (Artistic Director John Doyle) announced today the newest installment in its Classic Conversations series. Launching on Thursday, March 10, the conversation will be hosted by John Doyle and feature guests Sarah Vowell (Assassination Vacation) and John Weidman (Assassins).  

Bucks County Playhouse producers Alexander Fraser, Robyn Goodman, and Josh Fiedler announced an extension of the submission period for the South Asian Playwrights Festival. The plays will now be accepted through March 31, 2022.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is opening its stunning new in-the-round Ensemble Theater in Honor of Helen Zell—the centerpiece of its recently unveiled Liz and Eric Lefkofsky Arts and Education Center—with ensemble member Yasen Peyankov’s extraordinarily funny and lyrical adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Seagull, April 28–June 12, 2022 (opening May 8).

Desert Ensemble Theatre is currently presenting AJ Clauss's SALTY. The production is well worth seeing; the play forces people to think about major issues and the director and ensemble cast are fabulous. Although there are many funny and many sweet moments, be forewarned: the overall tone is sad and pessimistic.

 The Lark, founded as an international play development laboratory dedicated to amplifying the voices of playwrights, which earlier this year announced its closing, has announced the re-homing of its current Fellowships and key Core Artistic Programs.
