Previews begin this Friday, April 13 for the Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) world premiere production of DANCE NATION, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize-winning new play by Obie Award winner Clare Barron (You Got Older, I'll Never Love Again). Directed and choreographed by Obie Award winner Lee SundayEvans (Caught, D Deb Debbie Deborah, A Beautiful Day in November..., [Porto]), the play is the fifth production of the theater company's 2017/2018 Season.

Leading contemporary choreographers will premiere site-specific performances in a new dance series at the Rubin Museum of Art, presented in partnership with the arts organization Pentacle. For “Suspending Time,” Beth Gill, Zvi Gotheiner, Raja Feather Kelly, and nora chipaumire have each created a work connected to the Rubin's exhibitions and 2018 theme, “The Future.” The twenty minute performances will take place on four Wednesday evenings in March and April, each in a different gallery within the Museum.

FOUR NIGHTS OF DREAM, composer/librettist Moto Osada's opera performed in its US premiere last week at the Japan Society, is based on a cornerstone of 20th century Japanese literature, 'Ten Nights of Dream' by Natsume Soseki. While the four stories Osada has chosen may seem stylized and foreign to the Western sensibility, there is no such difficulty in being drawn in by his interesting, dynamic score--by turns lyric and harshly modern--and the staging by Alec Duffy.

The SCHONBERG (BOSTON) FELLOWS is a pilot mentored residency initiative that connects The Yard to the professional dance community of Boston, created in partnership (and appreciation) with the Arts and Culture Program of The Boston Foundation, the city's community trust. The Yard´s Chloe Jones and David R. White have curated the 2017 group of artists, looking both at early choreographic achievement and future creative potential. Peter DiMuro, McKersin Previlus, and the duo of Claire Johannes and Jordan Jamil Ahmed are the first wave of dedicated artists to take the plunge. Old friend and acclaimed David Parker, the Boston-bred choreographer/singer/percussive dancer who leads The Bang Group (TapTheYard; Nut/Cracked), is the mentoring ghost in the machine.
