BWW Review: BALLETX ~ EXUBERANCE AND EXTRAORDINARY TECHNIQUE at Segerstrom Center For The Arts
by Valerie-Jean Miller
- Oct 23, 2021
For me, an exciting evening in the theater and in the world of ballet.
The name Ballet'X' connotes a modern term denoting non-gendered, non-binary, and inclusivity. I instantly discerned that this company was on top of the latest consciousness, and has incorporated not only this, but the latest trend of mixing forms of dance together, the latest in staging and technology, and superbly trained young, up-and-coming dancers. The program for the evening consisted of three new works, by three diverse, world-renowned choreographers, all set on the dancers in the company.
This young company, based in Philadelphia, is amazingly together with an eclectic repertoire, presenting a clean, fully executed array of interesting choreography and interpretations.

BWW Review: AMELIE DE MUSICAL ⭐⭐⭐ at Theater De Veste Delft!
by Chantal Kunst
- Oct 22, 2021
Christanne de Bruijn plays a ballsy Amélie. Her calm and quirky presence makes a perfect Amélie. Feisty on the one hand, yet awkward on the other. Her love-interest Nino (David Schwarz) is not a stereotypical leading character, which is refreshing. Not overly present but comes in and out of her life as fleeting and random as life itself.
Student Blog: Dear Trans and Non-Binary Theatre Artists: PLEASE Don't Stop Working
by Student Blogger: Meredith Muirhead
- Oct 20, 2021
Let’s face it- theatre can be hard. It’s hard when you’re a writer, it’s hard when you’re an actor, it’s hard when you’re a director, it’s hard when you’re a designer, and everything in between. When you’re an artist, you’re constantly working emotionally, mentally, and physically, and the work doesn’t always feel rewarding. After all, we create to make ourselves heard and seen, and how does it feel when the art we create is glossed over, dismissed, and ignored? How does it feel when the art that is being put forward doesn’t reflect us? Theatre truly is for everybody, so why is it so hard for trans and genderqueer theatre artists (even today!) to find their place? The reality of it is, there’s no excuse for why the works of trans and non-binary theatre artists are not given enough recognition. The best way to get that work out there, in all honesty, is to just keep going.
Student Blog: Staying Involved in Theatre (for Non-Theatre Majors)
by Student Blogger: Jana Denning
- Oct 20, 2021
Almost everyone, including myself, expected me to major in musical theatre. It’s what I eat, sleep, and breathe. Instead, I’m pursuing a degree in Architecture, but I don’t want to miss out on theatre while I’m in college, so I’ve compiled some ideas for how you (and I) can stay involved in the theatre scene no matter what your major is.
