Signature Theatre announced its 2022-2023 season—from Resident playwrights Quiara Alegría Hudes, Samuel D. Hunter, Sarah Ruhl, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins—alongside the inauguration of Launchpad, a new residency supporting early-career playwrights that expands the organization’s singular mission of producing a body of work by each resident writer.

Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast's premier launchpad for exceptional new plays and playwrights, has announced its lineup for the 45th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) which will be presented as a hybrid (in-person and streamed) festival July 29 - August 7, 2022. Selected from 240 applicants via a committee process with 150 readers (the majority of whom are also playwrights), five powerful plays by five exciting new voices will receive public readings and workshops in this year's festival.

​​Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for theatre, announced that publisher Terry Nemeth will be retiring in the fall of 2022. For almost 40 years, Nemeth has led TCG’s publishing programs, including TCG Books and American Theatre magazine.

Vineyard Theatre has announced casting and design team for the upcoming World Premiere of Lessons in Survival: 1971 at Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) now on-sale. Lessons In Survival: 1971 will begin previews at Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) May 26, 2022 and play through June 30 with an opening night set for June 9.  

Manhattan Theatre Club’s Broadway premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning How I Learned to Drive will extend for two additional weeks of performances. The production will now play through Sunday, June 12 at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). The show is produced with Daryl Roth and Cody Lassen in association with the Vineyard Theatre.

Signature Theatre has extended the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter’s A Case for the Existence of God, directed by David Cromer (Tony Award-winner, The Band’s Visit) to May 29. The production, which opened on May 2, is running on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 W 42nd St).

EastLine Theatre, in association with Westbury Arts, will present the world premiere of Being Earnest by Long Island queer playwright Danny Higgins this June. This new adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest will begin performances at the Westbury performance space in June. Tickets for the performances are free with a refundable reservation.

Vineyard Theatre has announced that Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show,” The Vineyard’s Harry Clarke) and Deirdre O'Connell (recent Tony Nominee for Dana H.) will co-host Vineyard Theatre’s annual gala on Monday, May 16, 2022.

The winners of the 2022 New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards will be announced Thursday, May 12 at 6pm. The selections will be made immediately beforehand at the organization's 86th annual voting meeting.

The 2023 Yale Drama Series Prize has chosen Jeremy O. Harris, the Yale alum and Tony-nominated author of Slave Play, as the presiding playwright for its landmark 15th anniversary year. As his first order of business, Harris is assembling an international group of readers to help evaluate submissions as part of a larger effort to infuse the process with a more global point-of-view.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has just announced that Fat Ham has won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Other finalists included: Selling Kabul, and Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord.

Patrons and friends from the Playhouse on Park community tuned in for Playhouse's Season 14 Big Reveal in-person and via livestream; the season was announced by Executive Director Tracy Flater and Co-Artistic Directors Sean Harris and Darlene Zoller.
