Red Branch Theatre Company (RBTC) continues its 2017 season entitled Mad About You with Lysistrata Jones, a musical about hoops, hope, and love. Casting has been completed and rehearsals are underway for the production that will run at Drama Learning Center, where Red Branch is the professional theatre in residence, from August 4-26. Drama Learning Center's professional training company for emerging young artists will present the area premiere of new American musical Hands on a Hardbody next month. Inspired by true events and based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name by S. R. Bindler, Hands on a Hardbody follows 10 hard-luck Texans searching for a new lease on life. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, each contestant fights to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is Hands on a Hardbody, only one winner can drive away with American Dream.

Kicking off its 50th anniversary festivities, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) will present a one-night-only reading of Jerome Kilty's Dear Liar on Sunday, October 2 at 7 p.m. at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater. Starring Academy Award nominee and M.F.A. graduate Annette Bening and A.C.T. favorite Mark Harelik, this special event will be directed by fellow A.C.T. alum Nancy Carlin, whose mother Joy Carlin was A.C.T.'s associate artistic director in 1986.

Rabbi Steven Lebow, of Temple Kol Emeth - Marietta, Georgia who has fought for Leo Frank's exoneration for decades, will be available via Skype after TYA's Sunday June 12 matinee performance for a Talkback with the audience and cast. He has graciously agreed to answer questions about the case and discuss why the Leo Frank story is important today. Also on stage will be TYA Parade cast members who will share how playing real-life people so intimately involved in this tragic story, has impacted their lives. Theatre francais de Toronto will present Quebec screen and stage legends Louise Marleau and Albert Millaire in Cher menteur (Dear Liar: A Comedy of Letters) by Jerome Kilty. Translated into French by the famed poet Jean Cocteau and directed by Millaire himself, the Toronto premiere of this epistolary comedy opens at the Berkeley Street Theatre today, February 19 and runs to March 1. There will be English surtitles.
