Review: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, Watermill Theatre

Much Ado About Nothing is a quintessential Shakespeare farce: mistaken identities, intertwining romances, betrayals and deception all wrapped up with a neat little bow by the end. The same can be said for the screwball comedies that dominated 1930’s and 40’s cinema, so it’s no surprise why Tom Wentworth would want to bring the events of Renaissance-era Messina to the backstage gossip of Golden Age Hollywood.

BroadwayWorld's Olivier Awards 2024 Predictions

The 2024 Olivier Awards are fast approaching on April 14. Review: LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL at Reynolds Performance Hall

What did our critic think of LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL at Reynolds Performance Hall? It was another sold out show at Reynolds Performance Hall, 223 Beatrice Powell St., in Conway, Friday, Feb. 16, for LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL. With Book by Allan Knee, Music by Jason Howland, and Lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, this Louisa May Alcott classic, told through song and dance, entertained generations of March sister fans.

Review: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Royal Shakespeare Theatre

Eleanor Rhode directs a modern version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, starring Mathew Baynton of Horrible Histories and Ghosts fame as Bottom, the fool who becomes one of several victims of fairy mischief. But, in a delightful twist, the star of the show is Puck, who was played by Premi Tamang due to the indisposition of Rosie Sheehy.

Review: NORTHANGER ABBEY, Orange Tree Theatre

It's no wonder that the Orange Tree Theatre is such a fan of Zoe Cooper. She received critical acclaim with both the beautifully touching Jess And Joe Forever in 2016 and the wonderfully perceptive Out Of Water in 2019 at the venue. There are many similaries here, with Cooper's deft handling of sexuality, friendship and social expectations, but this time taken from Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. Is it another hit? Not quite.

Review: SIX, Vaudeville Theatre

Since Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss' little show about Henry VIII's six wives first debuted in 2018 at the Edinburgh Festival, it has done rather well. It quickly moved to the West End in January 2019, before opening at its current home – the Vaudeville Theatre – in November 2021, bitting 1000 performances in December 2023. Along the way, the show has also won over 35 international awards, including two 2022 Tony Awards.

Review: CRUEL INTENTIONS, The Other Palace

Some can agree that the film took itself seriously to the point of unintentional hilarity, so director Jonathan O'Boyle and co-writers Roger Kumble, Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross do the next best thing in adapting it by shifting the tone into campy dark comedy.
