In 1966, Cavett wrote and hosted the special, WHERE IT’S AT, produced by Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear. In 1968, Cavett was hired by ABC to host THIS MORNING, which was renamed THE DICK CAVETT SHOW and moved to prime time and then to late night, where it ran opposite THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON.

The Town Hall Foundation's Board of Trustees and Lawrence Zucker, Executive Director, have announced that Melay Araya has been named the new Artistic Director of the renowned performing arts venue. Since 2018, Araya worked at Town Hall in the joint role of Associate Artistic Director and Archivist.

Norman Mailer's youngest son, John Buffalo Mailer, has entered into a partnership between Hivemind's Sean Daniel and Kathy Lingg, Washington Place Productions' Miles Mogulescu, and Mailer-Tuchman Media's Martin Tuchman and Jennifer Gelfer to produce a major limited series based on Norman Mailer's renowned novel, The Naked and the Dead. The deal was brokered by UTA. The partnership is packaging the project and seeking a top showrunner.

DOC NYC Announces Full Lineup for 10th Edition

DOC NYC, America's largest documentary festival, announced the full lineup for its expanded tenth anniversary edition, running November 6-15 at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village and Chelsea's SVA Theatre and Cinépolis Chelsea. The 2019 festival includes 136 feature-length documentaries among over 300 films and events overall, making this landmark year DOC NYC's biggest edition yet. Included are 28 world premieres 27 US or North American premieres and 59 NYC premieres, with more than 500 doc makers and special guests expected in person to present their films or participate on panels.

David Sonenberg Works to Develop Musical Adaptation of WHEN WE WERE KINGS

Producer David Sonenberg is bringing a musical version of his Academy Award winning film 'When We Were Kings', about the now-legendary 1974 Muhammad Ali/George Forman fight held in Zaire, Africa, to the stage. The book for the musical, adapted from the film and written by Shelley Marcus. The songs for the musical are R&B classics from the 1974 Zaire music festival, with the exception of 'Rumble In The Jungle', which was written by The Fugees for the film. A workshop is scheduled for the spring of 2019 with plans for a full stage musical production the following year.

A documentary on infamous attorney Roy Cohn will debut on HBO in 2019, drawing on extensive, newly unearthed archival material to present the most revealing examination of him to date. Director Ivy Meeropol (“Indian Point,” HBO's “Heir to an Execution”), granddaughter of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, spent much of her life feeling both repelled and fascinated by the man who prosecuted the Rosenbergs in what became known as the “atomic spies” case, obtaining their convictions in federal court and then insisting on their executions.
