This summer, the New York State Council on the Arts will support new and expanded music festivals designed to spark economic revitalization and tourism, build community, and celebrate diverse voices in New York State arts and culture. SHOWTIME has ordered an eight-episode season of the new half-hour comedy series WORK IN PROGRESS, created by Abby McEnany and Tim Mason. McEnany stars in the series, expected to premiere later this year. Mason directed the pilot. Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix, Sense8) will co-write the first season and executive produce with McEnany and Mason. SHOWTIME acquired the project after its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival, where it was an official selection of the Indie Episodic program. The annual Marcia Quick Gard Theatre Arts Scholarship was founded and funded in 2018 by Larry Gard in memory of his wife and her life-long commitment to excellence as an actor. The scholarship offers awards of both $1,000 and $500 to university level theatre students who intend to become professional actors. The funds are intended to provide financial support for the recipients' education expenses.

As John Walker Lindh is released from prison, Showtime Documentary Films today announced the production of DETAINEE 001, from Emmy(R) winning director Greg Barker (The Final Year, Sergio, Manhunt, Legion of Brothers). The film, which has been in production since 2017, gives the definitive account of Lindh's story with never-before-revealed details from his legal case and unpacks challenging truths and shifting allegiances behind one of the most compelling and unresolved mysteries of the post-9/11 age. Lindh's case set a precedent for how Americans caught up in the War on Terror were prosecuted, and the film examines how American military and justice systems have grappled with the two decades since his detention.
