The Third Avenue Playhouse, located in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay, announces its lineup of six plays for the upcoming 2020 season. The plays include an early career work from playwright David Mamet, a 1964 musical by the legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, a multi-award winning classic about the unlikely friendship between an elderly lady and her driver, the story of an unconventional advice columnist, and a farcical take on the making of Gone With The Wind.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that James Lipton, executive producer, writer, and host of the Bravo cable television series Inside the Actors Studio, has died at age 93.

In back-to-back events, the African American community comes together for a weekend celebrating Black excellence. On February 22, the 51st NAACP Image Awards airing live on BET Networks is the preeminent multicultural awards show from an African American point of view. It celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. The next evening, the American Black Film Festival will host its annual awards season gala, ABFF Honors. The ceremony celebrates Black culture by recognizing individuals who have made distinguished contributions to American entertainment. The honorees being celebrated at ABFF Honors have leveraged their career to carve out a space for people of color in Hollywood helping to create a more diverse landscape. ABFF Honors is an opportunity for the industry to acknowledge how far entertainment has come and thank the individuals who have made it their mission to propel the African American community forward.

Celebrating Black History Month, Black film pioneer Robert Townsend will add one additional performance for the closing run of his solo show Living the Shuffle on Sunday, March 1 and three special post-show discussions at The Marsh Berkeley.

This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama will be presented at Virginia Rep's November Theatre (114 West Broad Street) beginning February 7th, 2020 with two preview performances on Wednesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 6th. August Wilson's powerful masterwork will be onstage through March 1st. Fences is presented as part of the Acts of Faith Festival. 

The Long Goodbye, a one woman play written, produced and performed by actor Mattilynn Rochester Kravitz, is a universal hero's journey of love, forgiveness, and understanding all tied up with the bow of Alzheimer's. The multi-character show, presented by Whitefire Theatre in Los Angeles, explores the irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and skills, through a tumultuous mother and daughter relationship. The Long Goodbye opens on Friday, January 31 at 8pm, PT. at the Whitfire Theatre located at 13500 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA.

In celebration of Black History Month, The Marsh San Francisco and The Marsh Berkeley announce additional performances of four shows which speak to the 20th century African-American experience: Living the Shuffle, Not a Genuine Black Man, The Waiting Period, and East 14th. From a look at the difficulties faced by Black actors in the film industry to growing up in what was declared one of the most racist suburbs in America, overcoming depression, and living on the rough side of town, each solo show brilliantly explores aspects of life, as seen through the eyes of actor/performers Robert Townsend, Brian Copeland, and Don Reed.
