Celebrating the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment granting women the right to vote; assembled and produced by Deborah Brockus, artistic director of the annual Los Angeles Dance Festival. Deborah Brockus has assembled another TKO of a presentation.  This time at the aesthetically invigorating and lovely renovated Ford Theatre; originally entitled, prophetically first named, The PILGRIMAGE Theatre.  It was an enlivening evening from start to finish.  Ms. Brockus is a hands-on participant, besides organizing, directing, choreographing and publicizing and cheerleading all involved, she was there to greet the theatre goers and anyone coming to support and witness this celebration.  Take note of her tenacity and perseverance.   (more...)

Javier Dzul grew up in the jungles near Campeche, Mexico where the temples and echoes of Mayan culture still remain. He grew up performing Mayan ritual dances, which connected him to the rich Mayan spiritual world and its history. In line to be the king of his tribe, Javier endured a grueling jungle ritual, outlasted the other contenders and became king.  When he was 16, the 20th century arrived in the jungle and changed his life. He was introduced to Ballet Nacional de Mexico and he was floored. The ritual dances he learned as a boy were all about power. This modern dance he witnessed was all about beauty. (more...)

October 13. The a?oebrilliantly bolda?? (The Times UK) Truscott returns to Joe's Pub with a new iteration of her provocative and painfully relevant show, which had its U.S. debut there in 2013. Dressed only from the waist up and the ankles down, Truscott (still) stars in this sex-positive, seriously funny, unflinching, and nuanced show about rape culture, but will now be joined by cast members Jenn Kidwell (Underground Railroad Game) and Mari Moriarty (Jet of Blood).
