Yale Repertory Theatre to Present BETWEEN TWO KNEES

Yale Repertory Theatre will conclude its 2022 season with Between Two Knees. The play, written by the intertribal sketch comedy troupe The 1491s and directed by Eric Ting, is presented with Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Between Two Knees will be performed May 12–June 4 at Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street).

Jon Batiste Joins THE COLOR PURPLE Film

Jon Batiste has joined the cast of the upcoming musical film adaption of The Color Purple. Batiste will make his feature film acting debut in the film as Grady, a piano man and the husband of Shug Avery, played here by Taraji P. Henson. Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, H.E.R., Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, Ciara, and more are set for the film.

2022 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Awarded to Benedict Lombe for LAVA

The 2022 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to U.K. playwright Benedict Lombe for her debut play Lava. In a special presentation at Shakespeare's Globe in London, the Blackburn Prize judges presented Lombe with a cash prize of $25,000, and a signed limited-edition print by renowned artist Willem de Kooning, created especially for the Prize. 

Elizabeth Marvel Joins THE COLOR PURPLE Film Adaption

Elizabeth Marvel will play the role of Miss Millie, the unpleasant wife of the mayor, who hires Sofia to be her maid. The film is currently in production in Georgia. Marvel joins a star-studded cast including Taraji P. Henson, Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Halle Bailey, Ciara, Corey Hawkins, Colman Domingo, H.E.R., and Aunjanue Ellis.

The Acting Company Announces Reading of SAM'S COMING By Kia Corthron

The Acting Company has announced the return of The Louanna O. Carlin & John MacDonald Reading Series with Kia Corthron’s Sam’s Coming, which will receive a public reading on Monday, April 18 at 7:30 PM at The Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).
