On these varied accounts, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company's current stab at the KISS falls short. The multi-talented Hector Coris directs this ambitious production, but I fear that limited resources have roadblocked him from realizing the production's full potential.

  Scottsdale Musical Theater Company presents the rarely-seen Tony Award-winning musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. Set in an unnamed Latin American prison, a revolutionary is thrown into a cell with a flamboyant window-dresser. While the window-dresser escapes into Hollywood fantasies featuring the dangerous and seductive Aurora, the rebel desperately tries to find a way to continue his part in the revolution. The Tony Award-winning musical is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Manuel Puig.

Now in its sixth year, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company is pleased to announce its upcoming productions at their home at Tempe Center for the Arts for 2016-2017. Theatre Royal Plymouth Artistic Director Simon Stokes today announces the full cast for his production of James Graham's Monster Raving Loony.  Samuel James takes the role of Screaming Lord Sutch, with Joseph Alessi, Camilla Beeput, Joanna Brookes, Jack Brown playing a number of different characters. The production opens on Wednesday 10th February, with previews from Saturday 6th February, and runs until Sat 27th February.

Benevolent Theatre is excited to present the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally, based on the novel by Manuel Puig, as the final production in its 2014/2015 season. The production will run tonight, July 2nd through July 26th at Trap Door Theatre in Bucktown. Kiss of the Spider Woman is directed by Benevolent Theatre Founding Member Jessica Harling, director of such previous Benevolent Theatre productions as Spoon River. The production features Parker Guidry as Molina, and Jessica Kingsdale as Aurora the Spider Woman.

The landmark Supreme Court ruling handed down late last week instating national legalization of marriage rights for all individuals is a cause celebre for the country at large, particularly the Broadway community who has vocally and vociferously fought for equal acceptance for all for decades. Given the preponderance of LGBT people in the theatre community itself, this victory is a particular joy for many to celebrate. As a result of this momentous event, now is the ideal time to take a look back at the most important and notable musicals that have appeared on Broadway in the last several decades to shine a light on the gay community, ranging from portrayals of closeted individuals trapped and unable to find acceptance in a conservative society all the way to the out and proud representations available to see in some currently running smash hits. Additionally, who could forget all of musicals that have touched upon LGBT issues over the years - from the campy to the controversial to the highly acclaimed.

Today we are revisiting one of Kander & Ebb's most awarded musicals in honor of its opening more than 20 years ago this week, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.

In the musical theatre today, it seems the world goes 'round the shows of composer John Kander & lyricist, the late Fred Ebb. On Broadway, one of their final musicals 'The Visit,' starring Chita Rivera with a book by Terrence McNally, begins previews next Month and opens in April.

The production of Chekov's 'The Seagull,' now on at the Berkley Street Theatre, is an uneven disappointment. It fails to engage. Like Theatre 20's production of Stephen Sondheim's 'Company,' presented in the same venue last year, this Crow's Theatre production does not deliver on its exciting promise.

Today we are revisiting a dynamic 1990s Best Musical winner poised for a Broadway revival should the recent all-star reading having proved worthwhile, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.

According to the New York Times, a revival of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN could be heading to Broadway! A reading for the show was held just last week starring Audra McDonald, Alan Cumming, and Steven Pasquale in the roles of Aurora, Molina, and Valentin respectively. Tony winner John Tiffany (Once, The Glass Menagerie) directed the reading. Producer Tom Kirdahy, who put the reading together, told NYT: "I think everyone is interested in having further conversations, but there is no game plan for a production at this point."
