Recently, I had the chance to speak with David about his experience in the theatre world, his off-Broadway directorial debut, and, of course, Disney! Rehearsals are underway for the world premiere musical Skates! Little Girl Blue, the musical inspired by the life of Nina Simone, is now playing at New World Stages. The musical, written and starring Laiona Michelle (Amazing Grace, Book of Mormon, American Hero), began previews on Saturday, March 5th.

Katsura Sunshine will continue performances of Katsura Sunshine's Rakugo as part of his year-long residency at the Leicester Square Theater.  Sunshine is also preparing to simultaneously return to New York City on March 10, 2022, where the show ran for six months until COVID shut it down.  

Grammy-award winner Edie Brickell's new musical 38 MINUTES has announced the cast of their upcoming industry workshop, taking place on March 5, 2022, in Los Angeles following their successful 2019 reading.

Little Girl Blue, the musical inspired by the life of Nina Simone has announced it will push its opening night from February 28 to March 14th due to the recent Omicron Covid-19 spike in New York City. 

Little Girl Blue, a musical inspired by Nina Simone’s life, written by and starring Laiona Michelle (Amazing Grace, Book of Mormon, American Hero), will open for a limited run engagement,  Off-Broadway at the Shubert Organization’s New World Stages (Stage 5) on February 28, 2022.

American Idol favorites Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young return to lead a stellar cast in this completely original, family-friendly musical, co-created by Christine Rea (book/lyrics) and Rick Briskin (music/lyrics), with direction by Brenda Didier, choreography by Christopher Chase Carter and music direction by Daniel A. Weiss. 

The world’s only Western Rakugo Master, Katsura Sunshine, will return to live performances on two continents simultaneously. Beginning on December 12th, Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo will play the West End with a year-long residency at the Leicester Square Theater and will return to New York City’s New World Stages on January 27th, 2022.

Be More Chill has announced two new cast members for the final 5 weeks in its strictly limited 10 week run at The Shaftesbury Theatre; Grace Mouat [& Juliet, SIX the Musical] will play Chloe Valentine and Mountview graduate Nathania Ong, making her professional debut, will play Jenna Rolan.

The Outrageous Sophie Tucker is the story of a turn of the 20th century immigrant girl and how she became the Last of The Red Hot Mamas. The show chronicles her early years as a singing waitress at her family's restaurant in Hartford, and spotlights how a first-generation full-figured Jewish girl partnered with Black performers Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Molly Elkins to revolutionize American entertainment, onstage and off.

Be More Chill is set to open at The Shaftesbury Theatre for a limited 10 week run from Wednesday 30 June. Bill Kenwright with Jerry Goehring, Lisa Dozier and Paul Taylor-Mills will be reviving the show this summer.

Off-Broadway musical, A LETTER TO HARVEY MILK will be presented as a benefit online beginning April 22 at 7 PM and running through 25, 2021. When Harry fulfills a writing assignment to compose a letter to someone from his past who's dead, he writes not to his late wife Frannie but Harvey Milk, the first openly gay political leader in California.
