Going into a show titled Emojiland, you're probably not expecting allegories about immigration, politics, mental illness, and the ups and downs of the human condition. Surprise! Keith Harrison and Laura Schein have created a musical that's remarkably straightforward and thoughtful underneath its gimmicky, colorful exterior. The score is alternately silly and insightful, making it a genuinely delightful listening experience.

Arborhouse Productions & Visceral Entertainment (Michael Chase Gosselin and Tim Sulka) today announced that Taylor Iman Jones will temporarily join the cast of Emojiland The Musical, stepping into the role of Princess for Lesli Margherita who will be away for one week (Feb 18 - 23, a total of 8 performances), fulfilling a prior obligation.

Arborhouse Productions & Visceral Entertainment (Michael Chase Gosselin and Tim Sulka) today announced that Shelby Acosta and Karl Skyler Urban have joined the cast of Emojiland as understudies, along with Geena Quintos who has joined the company as a swing.

LiveRead@SDA will launch its 2020 season with CARRY ME, a new musical written by Kira Stone (The Light Rail, Salem) and Matthew Greene (Thousand Pines, Gregorian). LiveRead@SDA, a developmental series at The USC School of Dramatic Arts, was created to cultivate and provide critical support for the creation of innovative and contemporary new works for the American theatre.

This past Thursday at Broadway Sessions we were joined by cast & band members from Emojiland and just had an absolute blast! Performers included Heather Makalani (Aladdin), George Abud (The Band's Visit), Lena Gabrielle (Emojiland Music Director), Jacob Dickey (Aladdin), Tanisha Moore (Charlie and The Chocolate Factory), Jordan Fife Hunt (A Chorus Line), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Laura Schein (Co-Writer and Star of Emojiland) with guest performers Isabel Stein and Zach Herman.  

During the first night of BroadwayCon, the First Look event was held. The event gave fans a first look into this season's new musicals. Shows that performed at this year's event included Six, Girl From the North Country, Company, Emojiland, Between the Lines, Sing Street, Jagged Little Pill, Mrs. Doubtfire, Caroline or Change, and more!

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway cast twice monthly. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida, Footloose, Dance Captain Dance Attack web series) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano. This Thursday night, January 23rd, Broadway Sessions will welcome cast members from the Off Broadway hit Emojiland and more.

'We know what people are saying. We know that people hear 'Emojiland the Musical' and go... huh? Obviously, it would be foolish to expect anything resembling high art from a musical comedy titled Emojiland, which not only attaches bodies to those expressive emotion-summarizing faces from social media and texting but brings them to singing-and-dancing life. But even shows that aspire to little more than silly junk-food fun should be sprinkled with some degree of cleverness.
