Jumping across time, Bright Half Life, by award-winning American playwright Tanya Barfield, tells the four-and-a-half-decade story of Vicky and Erica, who meet, fall in love, start a family, and traverse the highs, lows, joys, and fears that come from sharing your life with someone else.

Mark Ravenhill is a playwright, director and the new artistic director and joint CEO of the King’s Head Theatre, London’s oldest pub theatre, which is currently celebrating its 50th year. We spoke with Ravenhill about the theatre’s anniversary programming.

It’s been a while since Mark Ravenhill’s had a show on in London. After The Cane premiered to stellar reviews at the Royal Court in 2018 and the musical adaptation of The Boy in the Dress (for which Ravenhill wrote the book) opened in Stratford-upon-Avon the year after, The Haunting of Susan A is somewhat of a comeback for the playwright.

Written by Bren Gosling (PROUD, King’s Head Theatre; Invisible Me, Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre; I, Minnie Lansbury, Bloomsbury Festival), Moment of Grace is about Princess Diana’s visit to Britain’s first specialist HIV/AIDS Unit at London’s Middlesex Hospital in 1987, and her famous handshake with an AIDS patient.

Mark Ravenhill, Co-Artistic Director of The King's Head Theatre, will direct the new production, opening at the world-renowned Islington pub theatre's stage from 26 April and playing until 28 May, with a press night on Tuesday 3 May.
