Although it’s been romanticized and idealized in sitcoms like “Friends,” the wilderness years of the modern twentysomething has been most accurately captured in Jonathan Larson’s seminal work RENT. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1996 and subsequently became a phenomenon that’s influenced virtually every musical to follow in its wake.

Jonathan Larson’s RENT is currently in residence at The Hollywood Majestic. Cupcake Theatre Company’s Brayden Hade directs this Pulitzer and Tony Award winner with a double cast. I had the chance to chat up ‘Benny’ cast member Nikk Alcaraz on his Angel Dumott Schunard and his Practical Peculiarities.

Broadway actress Jessica Hendy, (Cats, Aida, Amour) is bringing her own story to the stage in Walking with Bubbles, a new musical about the journey of a mother navigating her life after a shocking health crisis leaves her family in a vulnerable storm of chaos. The reading will be presented on October 24th and 25th at the AMT Theatre.

San Francisco Playhouse will continue its 20th Anniversary season with the imaginative and exhilarating hit musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's As You Like It.
