A former street performer in New York City, Jim R. Moore turned his love of the eccentric performing arts into a photographic collection in his Don’t Miss This! A Decade of Eccentric Performing Arts due out February 1, 2022.  Got to chat with Jim on his photographic expertise and experience shooting his fellow eccentric performing artists.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present the living legend Marilyn Maye for a special holiday engagement from Wednesday, December 29 through Sunday, January 2, including the “New Year’s Eve Extravaganza!” on Friday, December 31. 

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company continues its 45th Anniversary Season with a production of Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea by Nathan Alan Davis opening Friday, January 14, 2022. Founder and Producing Director, Ron Himes takes Davis’ script and weaves a beautiful coming of age tale filled with magic realism, love, and hope. This show is co-produced with The Nebraska Rep, with support from the MidAmerican Arts Alliance (MAAA). The production moves to St. Louis after opening in November in Lincoln as part of the continued #realchange collaboration. Previews will begin on Wednesday January 12 at the Edison Theatre on the campus of Washington University.

Shaiman has also written the score for films like South Park, The First Wives Club, The American President, Sleepless in Seattle, Broadcast News, When Harry Met Sally, Beaches, City Slickers, The Addams Family, A Few Good Men, Sister Act, and George of the Jungle.

Haul out the holly and roll out the royal carpet because the 'Queen and Prince of Cabaret' are descending upon Boca Raton for the Wick Theatre's A Winter Spectacular. The 'Cabaret Queen,' Marilyn Maye, has been dazzling audiences for over 70 years, and its dashing 'Prince,' Nicolas King, has been performing since he was four years old.

For the first time in the venue's history, The Ridgefield Playhouse will present a three-night stand-up comedy residency!  Comedian Brian Regan will take the stage at 8pm on Thursday, January 13th, Friday, January 14th and Saturday, January 15th, as part of the Barts Tree Service Comedy Series. 

The renowned Laugh Factory has announced the residency of comedy legend, Jon Lovitz, performing Nov 22-24, Nov 29-Dec 1, Dec 6-8, Dec 27-29, with additional 2022 dates to be announced.

As has often been reported, Marilyn Maye appeared on the Tonight Show a record-setting 76 times and was Johnny Carson’s personal measure of excellence for any other singer who appeared on his show.  As a cabaret performer, it is not hyperbole to say she simply has no peer. She is the person that everyone who sets foot on a nightclub stage, sings a jazz riff, or dabbles in The Great American Songbook looks to for inspiration and instruction.
