2019 brought us a slew of new shows on Broadway and beyond. From fan favorites like Be More Chill, and Beetlejuice, smash hits like Moulin Rouge! and Hadestown, to plays such as Slave Play, Betrayal, and The Rose Tattoo, this year had something for all theatre fans to enjoy.

It was announced today that the Tony-nominated musical TOOTSIE will play its final performance at at the Marquis Theatre on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

In honor of National Author's Day today, November 1, TOOTSIE has partnered with The New School's College of Performing Arts to launch a playwriting contest for its students. Participants must submit a new, original 5-minute comedic play with the title a?oeWho Are You?a?? based off a TOOTSIE song of the same title. The winner of the contest will receive a private writing consultation with Tony Award-winning book writer Robert Horn.

Andy Grotelueschen is no stranger to profanity, as he gets to perform the now iconic 'Jeff Sums It Up' in Broadway's Tootsie every night at the Marquis Theatre. Now he's taking his character's trademark irreverence to the next level... by recording a solo album? GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS and THE CIVILIANS have announced that the first three premiere albums of The Michael Friedman Collection, will be available for streaming and download today, Friday, October 18. The Great Immensity, The Abominables, and This Beautiful City are all written (or co-written) and directed by Steve Cosson and feature music and lyrics by Michael Friedman.

Barry Manilow's Harmony is coming to NYC next year, but before it reaches the stage, the show has received a private reading. Instead, David Yazbek's lyrics and music stay stuck in the bygone era of the early 1980s, leaning heavily on the tired and inherently transphobic a?oeman in a dressa?? gag and a rather generic sounding Broadway score rooted firmly in the most rudimentary basics of musical writing.

On the 2019 Tony Awards last night, Santino Fontana transformed from failed actor Michael to the sparkling Dorothy in the blink of an eye as he and the cast of Tootsie performed 'Unstoppable.'
