We are living in a time of deliberate campaigns of voter suppression through a variety of means.  Coincidentally, or maybe not so coincidentally, we're living in a time when women's rights are increasingly under attack.  All of which makes it seem obligatory to revisit the life struggles of historic female activists and be inspired by their brave campaigns for fundamental rights. 

'Almost 13' by Joan Kane will be presented by Ego Actus in the East to Edinburgh Festival at 59e59 Theaters July 16, 26 and 30.

'Aunt Susan and Her Tennessee Waltz' by Toby Armour will be presented by Theater for the New City (TNC) April 28 to May 15.  The play dramatizes the leadership of Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt and Juno Frankie Pearce in the struggle to win the women's right to vote.

Founding Artistic Director Akia, announced today that Rising Sun Performance Company has invited 8 new artists to join its resident ensemble company. These artistic relationships grew from the company’s internal artistic development programs and virtual programming last season. 

Ego Actus Theatre Company today announced it will still present Gary Morgenstein’s new drama A Black and White Cookie, but in an updated version that is set against the backdrop of New York City reopening, post-pandemic. The play will premiere on the On The Air series Saturday, January 16 at 7:30PM/ET, and Sunday, January 24 at 3PM/ET. 

Gary Morgenstein's drama Saving Stan, a love story about passion friendship and suicide, will kick off the new Survival is Insufficient Zoom Theater reading series on Tuesday, October 6 at 7PM.

The award-winning international production company Ego Actus will premiere a new Zoom theater festival, SURVIVAL IS INSUFFICIENT, which will be presented live Tuesday nights at 7:30PM/ET beginning October 6.

Founding Artistic Director Akia, announced today that Rising Sun Performance Company recently concluded its ensemble auditions. This was the first open call since 2017 held specifically for resident ensemble members.

Award-winning journalists Jack Rico (NBC News/Telemundo) and Mike Sargent (PBS NewsHour, WBAI Radio) will discuss prejudice and pop culture in America following the Sunday, March 29th, 3PM performance of the provocative new play A BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE, which tackles overcoming hate, finding faith and fighting back. The talk-back will be held at the award-winning Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, where the play will run March 26-April 12.

Beigel's Bakery, which has made more than 100 million black-and-white cookies since opening their first store in 1949, is pairing up with a new Off-Broadway play A BLACK AND WHITE COOKIE, a provocative new drama about racial harmony, which will run at the Theater for the New City March 26 - April 12. The pairing comes about as New York is battling surging anti-Semitism. The famed bagel maker will be sponsoring the show by handing out hundreds of their signature black and white cookies in an effort to raise visibility of the timely new show and its important and unifying subject matter.

On Monday, September 16, 2019, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation announced the 2019 recipients at the annual Off-Off-Broadway IT Awards. For the past 15 years, the It Awards have celebrated the vibrant and creative indie theatre community under the dedicated leadership of Executive Directors Shay Gines and Nick Micozzi who are stepping down and at the ceremony introduced new leadership for the organization: Cat Parker, Artistic Director of Articulate Theatre Company; Ariel Estrada, Producing Artistic Director of Leviathan Lab Projects; and Jazmyn Arroyo, Co-Founding Artistic Director of Step 1 Theatre Project will join Akia Squiteri, Artistic Director of Rising Sun Performance Company as Directors of the organization.

The League of Professional Theatre Women (Shellen Lubin and Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been championing women in the professional theatre for over three decades, will launch their 37th season of programming, events, and advocacy, with a special event on Wednesday, September 25 at Theaterlab (357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018). Pre-reception networking will begin at 6:30pm. The event will officially kick-off at 7pm, followed by post-reception networking from 9pm-9:30pm.

The final Madness of the season will be a (mostly!) All-Company Madness and will take place on Sunday, July 28th at 8pm at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). NYM Company member Gina Femia will be the featured guest and pick the theme.
