It was exactly ten years ago I first saw Stephen Temperley's SOUVENIR at Baltimore Center Stage which starred Tony Award winner, Judy Kaye. I could not imagine seeing a better version of it ever. But, I was wrong. The Rep Stage version is just plain spectacular and the two actors who perform here, Grace Bauer and Alan Naylor are just plain marvelous. (more...)

Olney Theatre Center launches the 2019-2020 season on the Mainstage with Kander and Ebb's CABARET directed by Alan Paul (August 28 - October 6, 2019). Broadway veteran Alexandra Silber, who played Guinevere in Paul's 2019 Helen Hayes Award-winning production of Camelot, and Tzeitel in the acclaimed Bart Sher revival of Fiddler on the Roof, will star as Sally Bowles, the flamboyant showgirl carried away by the glitz and debauchery of Weimar Berlin. Rowe (the creators of Brother Russia and The Witches of Eastwick), the show quickly became a favorite among Signature's artistic team during its U.S. premiere at the Theatre in 1998, cementing a longstanding relationship with Dempsey and Rowe. Running in the MAX Theatre now through September 20, the inside-politics musical satire is the first production of Signature Theatre's 2015/2016 season. Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) opens 2014 with Miss Nelson is Missing, its third production of its 62nd Professional Season. Based on one of the most memorable books its time by Harry Allard and James Marshall, Miss Nelson is Missing is written by nationally-renowned, local playwright, Joan Cushing, who is the most produced playwright in children's theatre according to TYA Today Magazine. This children's favorite directed byJennifer Nelson (2011's Mirandy and Brother Wind and former Producing Artistic Director of the African Continuum Theatre) and music directed by Helen Hayes Award Recipient and 8-time nominee, George Fulginiti-Shakar, will run January 17- March 9, 2014. Miss Nelson is Missing stars Helen Hayes Award Nominee Jessica Lauren Ball (Olney's Cinderella, Toby's Legally Blonde) as Miss Nelson, the well-natured and long-suffering teacher of the disobedient Room 207, who is suddenly replaced by the petrifying substitute, Miss Viola Swamp. On March 2, 2013, Olney Theatre Center will host the Diamond Gala, a black-tie fundraising event celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Olney Theatre Center. The event will include a cocktail hour, a seated dinner, live musical performances from Olney favorites George Dvorsky (Annie, The Sound of Music), Jessica Lauren Ball (1776, Grease, The Sound of Music, Cinderella), Donna Migliaccio (The Sound of Music, Cinderella), Caitlin Deerin (Annie), Parker Drown (Grease, Cinderella, Spring Awakening), MaryLee Adams (Spring Awakening) and Bobby Smith (Annie, The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors), as well as silent and live auctions. Funds raised from the event will support Olney's artistic and educational programming which reaches over 100,000 audience members a year in Maryland and nationwide. (more...)
