BWW Review: Scott Moreau Celebrates the Man in Black

Maine State Music Theatre kicked off its Monday Concert Series with three sold-out performances (June 15-17) of Scott Moreau's original Johnny Cash tribute concert, WALKIN' THELINE. Moreau's identification with Cash is deep and unerring, and he brings to his portrayal of the iconic singer not only a mellifluous bass-baritone, but also the skills of a fine actor combining them into a truly remarkable theatrical experience.

BWW Review: OLIVER! at OBC Theater in Corona is Delectable

The OBC Theater, in Corona, has a winner in its rollicking production of OLIVER. It is a bit of a schlep from the Coachella Valley, but it's worth the trip to see the imaginative choreography and adept acting, to hear the lovely singing from adults and children alike, and to marvel at the clever costumes and scenery.

2019 Ailey Spirit Gala Benefit Celebrating The 50th Anniversary Of The Ailey School Raises Over $1 Million

Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 2019 Lincoln Center engagement continued last night with the star-studded Ailey Spirit Gala. The centerpiece of Ailey's engagement celebrated the 50th Anniversary of The Ailey School, the official school of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and a springboard for many notable artists - including more than 70% of the Company's dancers.

Victory Gardens Announces IGNITION Lineup

Victory Gardens Theater Artistic Director Chay Yew, Executive Director Erica Daniels and Director of New Play Development Skyler Gray announce the lineup for the 2019 IGNITION Festival of New Plays, including The Tasters by Meghan Brown; The Gradient by Steph Del Rosso; [hieroglyph] by Erika Dickerson-Despenza; #NEWSLAVES by Keelay Gipson; Reckoning: Furies from a New Queer Nation by Geraldine Inoa; and They Could Give No Name by Exal Iraheta. The 2019 Festival runs August 2 -4, 2019 at Victory Gardens Theater, located at 2433 N Lincoln Avenue.

Donmar Warehouse Announces Full Casting For APPROPRIATE

The Donmar Warehouse today announces full casting for Ola Ince's production of Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Joining the previously announced BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning actor Monica Dolan, who will play Toni Lafayette, will be Jaimi Barbakoff (Rachael Kramer-Lafayette), Charles Furness (Rhys Thurston), Edward Hogg (Franz Lafayette), Steven Mackintosh (Bo Lafayette), Isabella Pappas (Cassidy Kramer-Lafayette), Orlando Roddy (Ainsley Kramer-Lafayette), Oliver Savell (Ainsley Kramer-Lafayette) and Tafline Steen (River Rayner).

A.C.T. Announces Recipients Of ArtShare For 2019–20 Season

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Literary Manager Allie Moss announced today the recipients of ArtShare-A.C.T.'s community space-sharing initiative-for the 2019-20 season. Created in 2012, ArtShare provides free performance space for independent artists and small to mid-sized companies without permanent performance spaces who would benefit from being in residence at A.C.T.'s Costume Shop Theater (1117 Market St.), A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue. A.C.T.'s 2019-20 ArtShare season is made possible by generous support from the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Berkeley Rep Ovation Gala Raises Over $1 Million

This past Friday evening, June 7, Bay Area arts supporters gathered at The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco to celebrate Berkeley Repertory Theatre and to honor outgoing Artistic Director Tony Taccone for his 22 years of leadership. The sold-out event, OVATION: A Tribute to Tony Taccone, raised over $1 million in support of the nonprofit's ambitious artistic endeavors and education programs.

Texas Chapter Of The Recording Academy Celebrates 25 Years With Gala At ACL Live This July

The Recording Academy Texas Chapter is incredibly proud to celebrate 25 years of representing the voices of performers, songwriters, producers, engineers, and all music professionals in Texas, as well as members residing in Oklahoma and Mexico. On Thursday, July 18, 2019 the Texas Chapter of the organization behind the annual GRAMMY Awards® will host an evening gala that brings together Recording Academy members and leaders, as well as music industry supporters, to recognize its years of service to the music community. The evening includes performances by GRAMMY®-winning and GRAMMY-nominated Texas Chapter members. The gala will take place at ACL Live to honor the longest running music television series, Austin City Limits and the rich history of the Texas music scene. With Recording Academy member-only programming happening earlier in the evening, the venue opens to the public at 8 p.m. for star-studded performances representing a variety of musical genres that have come from the region. Ticket sales for non-members will be announced on Wednesday, June 12 by ACL Live.

A.C.T. Announces Performance Schedule for 2019–20 Season

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon and Executive Director Jennifer Bielsteinannounced the performance schedule for the previously announced productions that will make up the company's 2019-20 season. In addition, A.C.T. announced new weekday performance times for Geary Theater productions for the 2019-20 season.
